FASHION’S NIGHT OUT IS TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ostensibly, Fashion’s Night Out is about well, you know, fashion. But a practiced party-goer knows that the night’s real value lies in all the free booze, food and swag one can squeeze out of the hours-long event.

Here I break down the night‘s best bets for making it through the night hunger sated (and slightly tipsy) without spending a cent.

6:00: What’s the best way to get any night going? Champagne and hors d’oeuvres of course! Get yours–and support a good cause–at De Beers’ tribute to Love, Marriage and Equality at their NY flagship store, 703 Fifth Avenue At 55th.

6:30: After enjoying a flute of champagne (or two), head next door to Henri Bendel’s, where the Hester Street Fair is temporarily setting up shop and you can start noshing on some more substantial fare, like yummy sandwiches and dumplings (or, hey some ice cream sandwiches could easily work for dinner–it’s Fashion’s Night Out, after all!)

7:15: At this point your champagne buzz has probably worn off a little. Head four blocks south to Juicy Couture, where the champers will be flowing all night, to immediately replenish.

8:00: Get some air (you may need it at this point) with a ten minute stroll over to the Ferrari store at 410 Park Avenue. Enjoy the free porsecco and hors d’oeuvres but what ever you do, DO NOT BUY A FERRARI.

8:15: Say goodbye to the Italians and say hello to the Swiss at the OC Concept Store at 655 Madison, where you’ll be treated to Swiss snacks, a chocolate bar and (yes!) a yodeling competition and ski simulator, for which you will be properly lubricated.

9:00: Having made it out of OC Concept Store without puking during the ski simulator, proceed to Dylan’s Candy Bar at 1011 Third Avenue to get those sugar levels back up to speed with yummy treats, customizable cookie shoes and unique cocktails.

9:30: With all that free booze and yummy food rumbling around in your tummy, at this point you may start lagging. Best to jog the few blocks to Nespresso at 761 Madison Avenue–get that heart rate up!–and enjoy the free espresso, cocktails and snacks.

10:00: Feeling so much more awake, hop on the F at 63rd and Lex and get off at Rockefeller Center. Head over to Morrel Wine Store (at 1 Rockefeller) where they’ll be serving up a “great selection of bubbly and still rosé wines.” Yum.

10:30: This isn’t exactly food, but at this point, we imagine you might be stuffed. Unwind from the night with a free massage from Brookstone at 1230 6th Avenue.

This is very exciting news! One of my favorite stores ZARA is set to launch their US online store Wednesday September 7th nearly a year after stepping into the online market overseas. As an online shopper this is amazing news! The European store has over 50 stores in the US and customers have been patiently waiting for their e-commerce store to launch.

Gap: 1969 Denim Studio Overview

Behind the threads.

After bringing on board new agency Ogilvy & Mather and new CMO, Seth Farbman, former Ogilvy Senior Partner/Worldwide Managing Director, Gap finally unveils its new campaign, which focuses on the brand’s 1969 denim line. The brand tapped a journalist and trendspotting blog Cool Hunting to spend time at the brand’s L.A. 1969 denim studio to find material for more than 30 videos that will be seeded in various online outlets, including Hulu, Daily Candy, ShopStyle and Refinery 29. The campaign also includes print ads that will run in mags like Vogue, Men’s Health and Lucky, as well as a foodie-friendly component, “Pico de Gap,” a taco truck that will sell $1.69 tacos–or give them free to Gap-wearers.

Versace For H&M

Is this the first image for the forthcoming Versace x H&M campaign? A photo of Abbey Lee Kershaw in some patchwork chinoiserie and bold gold accessories has just landed on the Fashion Spot, via I Know Something You Don’t Know, and both sites are claiming it’s the first image to leak from the campaign. I buy it–Abbey Lee is Versace’s favorite model right now and those togs (and that belt!) are totes Versace.

UPDATE: I just heard back from H&M, the image is from the look book, not the campaign.

Lately all the designer-collab hype has been heaped on Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s (now in stores) and Missoni for Target (Sept 13th) but here’s a reminder that Versace x H&M is coming on November 19. Which designer collab are you most excited for?

FNO Guide: Where to Find the Celebrities

I can’t believe Fashion’s Night Out (and, thus, fashion week) is this week! (September 8th) As anyone who has ever been to a Fashion’s Night Out is probably aware, they pack enough events to fill an entire week into just a few hours, so pre-FNO planning is key. While Vogue‘s interactive mapis quite handy, that is still a lot of stores to go through. So, I’m preparing a few of my own Fashion’s Night Out guides.

This one is for those of you who just want to see some famous people. I don’t blame you! Fashion’s Night Out offers rare opportunities to get up close and personal with real Hollywood stars. Maybe Tilda Swinton and Ne-Yo will become friends or Daniel Radcliffe will get wasted or Alexa Chung will debut a new haircut or Seth Meyers will screw up your drink or the Real Housewives of New York will be insane (that last one is the most likely)! Here’s myguide to where all your favorite celebs will be.

Who: Tilda Swinton and Ne-Yo
What: Tilda Swinton will join Pringle of Scotland designer Alistair Carr and Central Saint Martins’ Louise Wilson for a “special event,” Ne-Yo will sign hats from his line and perform.
Where: Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 Fifth Avenue New York NY 10022

Who: Solange Knowles
What: Djing + Photo op
Where: Lord & Taylor, 424 Fifth Avenue New York NY 10018

Madonna Goes To Trial To Defend ‘Material Girl’

It’s been a little over a year since apparel manufacturer L.A. Triumph slapped Madonna with a lawsuit, claiming that her “Material Girl” line for Macy’s threatens their own “Material Girl” juniors clothing line that they have been selling since 1997. I thought it sounded crazy, considering the fact that Madonna invented “Material Girl,” the song (well, writers did, but you know what I mean), in 1984.

However, I learned last August that L.A. Triumph actually had a leg to stand on, because while Madonna may have the copyright to the name of the song, she doesn’t have the trademark, since she hadn’t yet sold any products bearing the name (several missed opportunities there if you ask me!)

Madonna, understandably, was hoping they didn’t–she requested that the court throw out the lawsuit, which the judge has denied. From WWD:

On Aug. 31, a year after the suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Judge S. James Otero rejected an argument from MG Icon — a joint venture between Madonna, her manager, Guy Oseary, and Iconix Brand Group Inc. — that Madonna was the senior user of the Material Girl trademark because she performed the popular song “Material Girl” in 1984.

This means that Madonna is going to trial. It’s scheduled to start in mid-October and if L.A. Triumph wins, not only will Madonna have to fork over some cash, but she’ll also have to change the name of the clothing brand she’s been selling at Macy’s since fall 2010. This begs the question: if Madonna loses, what other Madonna song should she change the name to? Like A Virgin ?! -NOT!!!
