American Apparel’s Dov Charney Accused of Using Teenage Employee As Sex Slave
American Apparel founder Dov Charney is being accused of keeping a teenage employee captive and forcing her to perform sex acts on him in a new suit filed last week in Brooklyn Supreme Court, the NY Daily News is reporting.
The plaintiff, Irene Morales, now 20, began working for American Apparel when she was 17 as a salesperson at the brand’s Chelsea outpost. According to the suit, in April of 2008 when Morales was 18, Charney invited her over to his Manhattan apartment, greeted her in nothing but briefs, and “forced her to go down on her knees just inside the front door and perform oral sex upon him.” Then Charney reportedly forced Morales to perform the same act on the bed, “nearly suffocating her in the process.”
The horrifying accusations go on from there. Another excerpt from the suit states that the same night in April of 2008 that Charney reportedly forced Morales to perform fellatio on him, “she was then, to all intents and purposes, held prisoner in the apartment for several hours and forced to perform additional sexual acts.” Eric Baum, Morales’ lawyer, told the News that “the forced sex lasted eight months until Morales resigned under pressure.”
Morales didn’t resign from the company sooner because she was young, needed the job, and was promised a promotion, her lawyer said.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS 10TH BIRTHDAY !! ^_^
Ten years ago, this label–which we all know so well and love so much–changed fashion and retail forever. Sure, designers had done diffusion and bridge lines before (see Halston, Calvin, Ralph, and Donna), but those were mostly slick, grown-up brands. Marc Jacobs is nothing if not cool. He and business partner Robert Duffy made it okay for arty, hip designers to make money, too.
Without Marc by Marc Jacobs we might not be able to afford Rag & Bone, Alexander Wang, or Phillip Lim. (While these labels aren’t cheap, they are definitely more attainable than stuff in the Designer with a Capital D category, and were undoubtedly inspired by MMJ’s success.)
And without Marc by Marc Jacobs, labels like Proenza Schouler and Derek Lam might not even be entertaining the idea of launching a contemporary collection.
In honor of the brand’s game-changing decade, Marc by Marc has launched an anniversary collection, featuring that oh-so-famous military jacket, military vest, military pants, military skirt, printed t-shirts, and the lacquer fruit belts, pins, and necklaces with which we were all so obsessed. There are also a collection of dresses and silk scarves featuring seven of the label’s most popular prints. Prices start at $68 and everything is under $300. You can find it at Bloomingdale’s across the country, starting today. And customers who shop the collection from March 10 to March 20 at Bloomies will receive a gift with any $100 purchase.

LADY GAGA FOR THIERRY MUGLER FALL 2011 RUNWAY SHOW
Lady Gaga made her runway debut at Thierry Mugler‘s Fall/Winter 2011 womenwear fashion show under her stylist, Nicola Formichetti’s creative direction. Formichetti also informed Style.com that his biggest fan has already “bought the entire collection in every color.” I can see Gaga in every piece from the collection.
Minor observation: Lady Gaga was wearing 12 inch heels… I mean seriously?! They even had the two guys at the end holding her up ! LOL !! Gotta love her though 🙂

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN FOR KATE MIDDLETON’S WEDDING???
London’s Sunday Times is reporting that Kate Middleton will wed in Alexander McQueen on April 29.
Middleton will also have some input regarding the design of the dress. Sources tell the Telegraph “the design of the dress will be a combination of Miss Middleton’s own ideas and Mrs Burton’s quirky interpretation of high fashion.” The paper also reports that Sarah Burton was “chosen for the discretion afforded by her relatively low profile, as well as for her alternative take on elegance.”
The Sunday Times, the first outlet to report that McQueen had landed the coveted job of designing Middlton’s wedding dress, is sticking to their story despite the fact that McQueen’s camp has denied the report to CNN. As for Prince William’s office, they told CNN “We’re saying nothing.”
Though McQueen has to deny the report, even if it’s true. “Royal protocol means that even if it is McQueen, they will have to deny until Clarence House makes an announcement one way or the other,” Brit fashion writer Sasha Wilkins, aka Liberty London Girl, says.
And she isn’t surprised to hear McQueen’s name emerge. “Up until now the media have made relatively little of the fact that the fashion writer Sara Buys who is connected to Harper’s Bazaar, and who married in Alexander McQueen, is Prince Williams’s step-sister…she’s got to be influencing the decision in some way.”
Fingers crossed the rumor is true. Kate Middleton always looks gorgeous (because she is), but her sartorial choices have always been conservative and safe–often too safe.
Wilkins thinks Sarah Burton for McQueen would be an excellent choice for Middlton too. “The house of Alexander McQueen manages to be wholly original, whilst still understanding the glorious heritage of English fashion and costume, but never resorting to pastiche,” she says. “They also operate to what are essentially couture standards in their runway collections and a dress of this type has to be rigorously made.”
BREAKING NEWS:JOHN GALLIANO OUT OF DIOR AND RUMORS THAT HIS OUSTING WAS ORCHESTRATED.
Following several allegations made against John Galliano for verbal abuse and the release of a cell phone video showing Galliano making anti-Semitic slurs, Dior has just announced that they have fired their creative director, effective immediately (as in, within 24 hours, we hear), calling his statements and conduct “deeply offensive.”
“We unequivocally condemn the statements made by John Galliano which are total contradiction to the longstanding core values of Christian Dior,” Dior’s president and chief executive officer Sidney Toledano said in a statement.
Dior’s ousting comes after a drama-filled week in which two separate claims of verbal abuse laden with anti-Semitism were filed against Galliano, and most recently, the release of a shocking video of Galliano on an anti-Semitic rant. “I love Hitler,” he says in the video, allegedly filmed at the same Paris cafe that was the site of the two other incidences. “People like you would be dead,” he says to a nearby patron, “Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f**king gassed.”
The Sun, the Brit tabloid that originally published the incriminating video, did not report when the video was taken. Suspicious? Pehaps.
Now we’re hearing rumors that the video was from October and released this week because Dior has wanted Galliano out for some time. It’s true, the timing of all this does seem suspect–the quickness with which Dior put Galliano on suspension, and the subsequent allegation that followed, capped by the release of the video, the final nail in Galliano’s coffin. Word is Galliano’s alcoholism (he was often reported to be seen drunk at La Perle) and bigotry had been problems for some time.
According to WWD, Dior still plans to show this Friday.

THE HEP STAR STORE OPENING AT LAFORET, HARAJUKU
The Hep Star is the brainchild of the same design team which created the fashion label Suiren. While Suiren’s focus is high-end and avant garde, its younger, more playful sister brand Hep Star is intended for daily wear. The designers’ aim, according to their website, is to combine “basic wearable clothes, unique patterns, and highly mixable accessories” with “punk, pop, and military details”. The theme of the spring/summer 2011 is “cute cyber punk”, and includes easy-to-wear tunics and dresses – some in floral print – to be paired with leggings or frilly shorts.
While the Hep Star fashion line is intended to be “real”, the opening party on February 17th was out of this world. With the Hep Star making their La Foret debut along with 15+ other new shops, the place was packed with Tokyo’s beautiful, fashionable, and famous (check out Yone, Hello Jonte, and others below). Partygoers ate their way through a mountain of complimentary McDonalds cheeseburgers and the champagne flowed freely while gorgeous models styled in 80s punk-inspired make-up and big hair showed off the brand’s tunics, tees, and leggings.
