Ten years ago, this label–which we all know so well and love so much–changed fashion and retail forever. Sure, designers had done diffusion and bridge lines before (see Halston, Calvin, Ralph, and Donna), but those were mostly slick, grown-up brands. Marc Jacobs is nothing if not cool. He and business partner Robert Duffy made it okay for arty, hip designers to make money, too.
Without Marc by Marc Jacobs we might not be able to afford Rag & Bone, Alexander Wang, or Phillip Lim. (While these labels aren’t cheap, they are definitely more attainable than stuff in the Designer with a Capital D category, and were undoubtedly inspired by MMJ’s success.)
And without Marc by Marc Jacobs, labels like Proenza Schouler and Derek Lam might not even be entertaining the idea of launching a contemporary collection.
In honor of the brand’s game-changing decade, Marc by Marc has launched an anniversary collection, featuring that oh-so-famous military jacket, military vest, military pants, military skirt, printed t-shirts, and the lacquer fruit belts, pins, and necklaces with which we were all so obsessed. There are also a collection of dresses and silk scarves featuring seven of the label’s most popular prints. Prices start at $68 and everything is under $300. You can find it at Bloomingdale’s across the country, starting today. And customers who shop the collection from March 10 to March 20 at Bloomies will receive a gift with any $100 purchase.
