American Apparel “Shake Down” Continues: Internet Smear Campaign Launches Against Dov Charney’s Accusers

A picture Irene Morales allegedly sent to Charney.

In the last month, five former American Apparel employees have come forward claiming sexual harassment against the company’s founder Dov Charney. 20-year-old Irene Morales filed suit in early March, seeking $260 million in damages. On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that a second sexual harassment suit was being brought against Charney on behalf of four former American Apparel employees: Kimbra Lo, Alyssa Ferguson, Marissa Wilson and Tesa Lubans-Dehaven. The same lawyer, Eric Baum, is representing all five girls in both suits.

Today we spoke to a source who knows Lo, as well as several of the other women. According the source, Lo worked for the company for seven months and left in May 2010. The source calls these group of women “estranged groupies” who are using this as a “way to get rich quick. They all know Dov, whether platonically, or not. Or in the case of Irene, she was practically stalking him.” When asked why these women might want to do such a thing, the source said. “It’s a way to get rich quick. Kimbra has a history of getting involved with high profile men, and this is her cash-out.”

Another source remarked, “All made threats of some sort not only to Charney but to other American Apparel employees like the photographers, etc. that if they didn’t get more money and attention, they would go public with a fake lawsuit. As of now, they have no evidence. This is a civil matter, not a criminal case, which is what people don’t understand. They won’t get a dime.”

It seems other folks are out to leak their own “smoking gun” photos and bits of gossip. We’ve been bombarded by anonymous tipsters leaking information about Kimbra Lo’s personal life and now extremely NSFW emails alleged to be from Irene Morales to to Dov Charney have appeared on two blogs–kimbralo.blogspot.com and alyssaferguson.blogspot.com. More photos of Lo with Olivier Zahm are featured on these blogs, as well as Lo’s alleged spread for hipster porn mag Jacques. Gawker received similar tips, including additional emails alleged to be from Morales to Charney, one of which is a list of American Apparel birthday items she wants, dangling this as bait: “do it for all those delicious blowjobs I would give you, and how I would lick your little asshole clean!!! And how I would love to do it again when I see you!”

According to the Daily News, Irene Morales’ suit says that Charney “forced her to go down on her knees just inside the front door and perform fellatio upon him,” and “[s]he was then, to all intents and purposes, held prisoner in the apartment for several hours and forced to perform additional sexual acts.” Kimbra Lo, the only claimant from the second suit to speak out as the other three girls signed confidentiality agreement during their employment, went on the Today show this morning and said Charney attacked her after she showed up at his house to discuss photography and modeling opportunities. “I didn’t feel like there was a way for me to leave safely..I was terrified,” she said.

Dov Charney is contesting the charges. His lawyer, Peter Schey, told the Times “The allegations are false. I think this is an effort to shake down American Apparel. These claims should be resolved in confidential arbitration.” In a statement given to the Today show, American Apparel said they have love letters from Lo to Charney after she left American Apparel and that they have “‘smoking gun’ photographs undermining her false accusations of unwelcome harassment.”

EXCLUSIVE: H&M HIGH SUMMER 2011 PREVIEW

I love all these bright colors that I am seeign out in retail lately! H&M has now gotten on the band wagon with some amazing pieces of their own. High waisted shorts and denim overalls are all the rage… what is your fav piece? 😉

Also included H&M’s head of design, Ann-Sofie Johansson’s favourite pieces for spring.

“I just love this season’s cool 70s style for women,” she says, “with romantic dresses and tops, denim, long skirts and chic shorts.” The casual look is all about a wonderful spring feeling, and is one that works brilliantly with all the added extras. “Accessories are pretty bold,” says Ann-Sofie. For men, shorts are a key piece of the wardrobe for a classic yet fashionable look. “These are teamed with a casual shirt or a vest under a sleeveless jacket for a relaxed look, or dressed up with a white shirt and blazer for work,” she says. “They also look fantastic on women. I like roomy shorts and so I often get mine from the men’s department,” Ann-Sofie adds. Accessories are just as important for men as they are for women, such as espadrilles, sunglasses, weekend bags and belts.

ONE NIPPON Party Pictures: All-night Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Event at Trump Room Tokyo

On Saturday night, Tokyo’s fashion scene came together at the Trump Room to support earthquake and tsunami victims while listening to great music and sharing quality time with friends.

Produced by Tokyo Dandy, the “ONE NIPPON” party had a fantastic concept. Rather than paying to get in, everyone was asked to bring at least three items to be donated to Second Harvest Japan, a non-profit group working with earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Northern Japan. While organizers requested three items per person, many ONE NIPPON attendees brought far more than that. By the end of the night, boxes of donated goods for Second Harvest were stacked high.

Once inside the door of the all-night party, the love for those in disaster-hit areas of Japan was readily apparent – with many stylish Tokyo-ites wearing “Pray For Japan” pins from Faline Tokyo, or “Mighty Harajuku” pins from 6%DOKIDOKI. ONE NIPPON drew a huge variety of DJs and other entertainers, all of whom were excited to be doing their part to help out with relief efforts. Artists on hand included Mademoiselle Yulia, Yoon, Trippple Nippples, Baby Mary & KJ, Detto K, Flash & Roxi, Kosuke Adam, Leo Candycane, Takeru Is Dead, Yatt, Yuya Nara And Sachiko, 2Boy, Anti Noise, Cloudom, DJ Shun, D&V, Freeek, I’M, Jacob Le Champ, Kohno, Modern Boy, Poppo, Salvador, and Tommy.

We know that many of you reading this aren’t in Tokyo, just like myself 😦 , but that doesn’t mean you missed out on all of the fashion, music, and more at the ONE NIPPON event! See all the pics below :)!! Even though you may not have been there in person to donate items at the door, I definitely recommend that you do take a look at the Second Harvest website and see if there’s anything you can contribute.

Bubbles: Vintage Fashion Boutique in Harajuku

I WANTED TO POST SOME HAPPY NEWS REGARDING TOKYO.  A NEW VINTAGE STORE OPENING IN HARAJUKU TO BE EXACT ( AND BOY DO I LOVE THOSE;) ) TOKYO HAS THE BEST VINTAGE STORES WITH THE BEST PRICES. CHECK OUT ALL THE PICS BELOW, YOU’LL LOVE IT AS MUCH AS ME 🙂 BELOW IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE STORE ITSELF AND ITS OWNER. READ ON 🙂

Last weekend, Tokyo’s newest vintage fashion boutique opened in the heart of Harajuku. Located on the second floor of a building on the same street as many of Japan’s most famous streetwear and sneaker shops, Bubbles Harajuku offers a very different atmosphere and style. The shoes at Bubbles are more likely to be 1980s Christian Lacroix or 1970s Chanel than Nike or Adidas, and the t-shirts are more likely to be classic Thompson Twins or Scorpions tour shirts rather than the latest from Harajuku neighbors Supreme and Ice Cream. In addition to the vintage items, the shop also stocks a limited number of handmade and indie fashions from young Japanese designers.

Though Bubbles Harajuku just opened, the shop’s owner Coi is no stranger to Japan’s vintage fashion scene. Coi – who you might recognize from FRUiTS or other Japanese fashion magazines – previously worked at the popular Harajuku resale shop Kinsella. While working at Kinsella, she travelled the world with the shop’s buyer – hitting resales shops, swap meets, and other locations throughout Asia and America in search of interesting items to bring back to Tokyo. Now that Bubbles is finally open, she is ready to share the treasures she found.

The Bubbles shop aesthetic shows Coi’s love for vintage styles from America and other countries, with a strong focus on the 1970s and 1980s. E.T. has a special place in the store’s interior design, and vinyl records from bands like The Cars, The Clash, Roxy Music, and even Barry Manilow are strewn about artfully, along with various retro toys and some extremely awesome 1970s wallpaper.

The fashion offered at Bubbles includes a carefully selected collection of 1970s and 80s fashion – everything from vintage tops, dresses, skirts, and pants to footwear and purses, to colorful 1980s leggings, to lots of pins, accessories, and handmade items (zakka). Besides the vintage goods, a small number of new original pieces from young Japanese fashion designers and accessories from popular-on-the-streets-of-Harajuku Japanese accessory brands like Pe-Poco are also available at Bubbles. In the future, Coi may be adding more original items and even some of her own pieces under the “Bubbles” brand name. (LOVE THE NAME 😉 )

Rather than try to explain too much to you, have a look at all of these pictures of the new shop and you’ll get a good idea of what it’s about.

EXCLUSIVE: Sneak Peek at Matthew Williamson for Macy’s

It’s bright, it’s colorful, it’s printed and it’s classic Matthew Williamson.

However, this Matthew Williamson, officially labeled “Matthew Williamson for Impulse, Only at Macy’s,” is priced hundreds, even thousands of dollars below his signature collection.

The limited-edition collection of short dresses, maxi dresses, outerwear pieces, rompers, shorts and blouses ranges in price from $50 to $120, with the suede and leather pieces priced slightly higher. This collection, which hits 225 Macy’s stores on April 13, was previewed on Tuesday evening at a presentation at the Mondrian Hotel in New York’s SoHo, but the designer, sadly, was not in attendance.

“He has whimsy and fantasy and integrity of design,” says Nicole Fischelis, Macy’s group vice president and fashion director. “I have been a fan of his work from the beginning and he has been extremely consistent.” She added: “His unique color and print sensibility, his bohemian sensibility and attitude – there’s something very youthful at the same time totally sophisticated. It’s totally for right the contemporary Impulse customer.”

“I love the prints, the color sensibility, the animal print,” Fischelis raved. “I think it’s very special.”

This collaboration is the second Impulse designer partnership. The first one, Kinder Aggugini, which launched in February 2011, performed very well, Fischelis said. “We were very happy with Kinder,” she said. “It was invigorating.”

Further collaborations are planned for the future; while Macy’s execs are not sharing names, rumor has it that Karl Lagerfeld will be next. Who else would you like to see in collaboration with Macy’s and it’s Impulse label? Post a comment below and tell me. 😉
