Previously I’ve posted Zara Woman’s April 2011 lookbook, and now for the more casual and younger look, check out its TRF lookbook. Love the styling as always and the simple looks. I want it all 😉
Prabal Gurung on Future Design Collaborations and Being Considered for Dior
Hannah Thomson for J.CrewAt last night’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Party at J.Crew, CFDA winner Billy Reid and runners up Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo were all on hand (along with the rest of the New York fashion world) to celebrate the limited edition collaborations they designed for the specialty retailer.
I made a beeline for Gurung, who looked J.Crew-appropriate in marinière-ish top, as this is his first time doing a design collaboration at a lower price point (though we’re still crossing our fingers that there’s some truth to the rumor of a Target collab in the near future). Unfortunately most of his capsule collection weren’t on display last night (it rolls out in June–Reid’s is up first in May), but Marissa Webb, J.Crew’s head of women’s design, was wearing a pair of his tuxedo pants and you’re gonna want them. (Remember those tuxedo pants from Spring 2010 that had ties around the ankle? They’re just like those. Only slightly more affordable).
So how does he feel about doing a collaboration? “It was definitely interesting simply because it was a testing ground for something that I’ll do someday,” he said. “You have to understand, I didn’t know if it was possible the way I make clothes–they’re made in New York, fabrics are from Italy–for my style, my design, and the quality to [remain] in tact–and it is, so it was great to see that.” And Target begins to look more promising…
Gurung’s pants for J.Crew on Marissa WebbGurung was also on our radar as his name was unexpectedly tossed in the ring as a possible replacement for John Galliano at Dior, in a story that came out in WWD last week. He got a little nervous when we broached the subject and all he would say was this: “I feel extremely blessed that I’m in that lineup of designers that I’ve admired all this while…it’s unbelievable. It isn’t something I was expecting…I’m just going to say i was very humbled, grateful and thankful. I don’t want to say more.”

NARS Summer 2011 Collection
It’s raining in NYC again! Which kind of makes it hard to think of summer, SMH
Anywhoo, NARS just launched their new Summer 2011 collection and it’s looking fun! Love the pops of colors and the bronzed skin looks. The collection is now available at narscosmetics.com.
The Summer 2011 Collection, created by Founder & Creative Director François Nars, boasts bright colors reminiscent of the tropics. Neon orange gives an unexpected pop of color along with bright white, coral and cantaloupe. The highlight, Cap Ferrat Trio Eyeshadow, fuses three cool-toned variations of teal for an effortless day-to-evening transition. Franois once again turned to model Iris Strubegger for the campaign. Her intensely bronzed skin was the perfect accessory to complement the bright shades within the collection.

Coachella Festival’s Top Five Trends!
1) Denim cut-offs aren’t going anywhere. Yes the reign of the shredded, itty-bitty shorts continue.
2) Go buy something crochet. Now! From roomy tops to fitted minis, this was the fabric of the festival.
3) Sandals are so 2010. Bet you thought 100 degree heat meant your toes would definitely be making an appearance. Wrong! Festival-goers opted instead for cool-girl-approved ankle booties (a la Isabal Marant), sturdy knee highs and beat-up moccasins.
4) Accessorize with bold, ethnic prints. Festival-goers jazzed up otherwise simple outfits (maxi dresses, shorts and tees) with ethnic accents from navajo belts to Wayu Taya bags to vintage Mexican jewelry–the tribe didn’t matter but one thing is for sure: The more vibrant, the better.
5) Go long–as in maxi skirts and dresses. This is one of those runway trends that translates perfectly in real life, no supermodel bod–or shaver–required!
OMG, You Guys! Lauren Conrad Just Launched a Beauty Site!
Lauren Conrad is Allure’s May cover girl, and she is guest editing the beauty bible’s Facebook page all week. Yesterday she casually mentioned, “My new beauty site is launching right now!” Huh? What? Beauty site?
Yes, it’s true. The site, called the Beauty Department, is a collaboration with her hair stylist Kristen Ess and her makeup artist Amy Nadine. According to the “About” page:
This is a site for anyone who’s ever had a beauty question or gotten into a fight with a hair brush and lost. We’ll be covering all kinds of hair+makeup how-to’s, nail trends, skin issues, tools, current obsessions & inspirations, as well as countless quick tips.
There’s not a lot of content up yet, but go see LC looking pretty while curling her hair into perfect vintage waves. And the ombre nail feature? She has an eye for cute trends, no doubt about it.
I have a feeling this site is going to be my guilty pleasure. After so many cancellations and disappointments, we think girlfriend may finally have found her perfect niche. (And let’s not forget about Paper Crown.) Rumor has it that she wants to launch her own line of makeup and hair care, too.
Be still my heart.
Top 10 Best Dressed Coachella: Lauryn in Jil Sander, Kanye in Céline and Alexa in 3.1 Phillip Lim
Celebs and it-girls busted out their festival wear for Coachella this weekend to great effect. And it wasn’t just festival-goers like Kate Bosworth in Current/Elliott or Alexa Chung in a beaded 3.1 Phillip Lim who stole the show style-wise. Performers Kanye West and Lauryn Hill rocked in spring 2011 runway looks–Kanye in a women’s blouse from Céline and Lauryn in a striped Jil Sander. Stripes emerged as a trend for the weekend, as well as delicate lace numbers, and the requisite tiny cutoff jean shorts and floaty maxi skirts.
COACH ON NET-A -PORTER!
I was pretty happy to see on WWD that COACH is reissuing five of the classic handbags, which will be sold exclusively on NET-A-PORTER.COM from June 15th. “Each of these archetypal styles was originally introduced by Coach in the Seventies, with limited availability over the past few decades,” a Coach spokesman said, adding that the designs were taken directly from archives. Prices range from $298 for a shoulder purse to $498 for a field bag. There’s also a Madison satchel for $358, Stewardess bag, $358 and duffle, $398. Love these classic bags that can be worn everyday, looking forward to the release!
