Ooh! New Nail Art How-To Videos with the Master, Manicurist Sophy Robson

I love Sophy Robson based on her work and her blog alone–hopefully someday I’ll be able to meet her in person and pick her brain for all her nail knowledge. But until then, I can just hang out on Sephora’s website.

The UK-based Robson just did a series of  how-to nail art videos, which coincide nicely with the retailer’s recent announcement that they’re going to start offering nail salon services in-store. I am also loving this new trend of actual experts–like Pat McGrath’s collab with Cover Girl–posting videos about how to get certain beauty looks. (Not that we don’t admire the enthusiasm of all those 15-year-olds with YouTube accounts out there.)

Using Sephora by OPI products, Sophy walks you through how to get nail art looks with names like “Cherry Blossom,” “Distressed Metal,” and “Wild Giraffe.” There are also handy recipes to teach you how to get each look.

Not glutted on nail art yet? Then click on over to Sephora’s Facebook page, where there is a veritable smorgasbord of nail art to try.

Accessory Lines You May Not Know Of, But Should

We all know it when we see it— it’s the silk, seductive headpiece that stuns the red carpet—the edgiest of cuffs that raises a simple outfit to cool or the mixed metallic necklace that lays ‘oh so gently’ over a plain tank top. It’s the perfect accessory. With statement necklaces and bright colors at the forefront this summer, bold accessories are a must for every fashionistas’ wardrobe. We’ve got you covered with these amazing accessory lines to keep you styled all season long.

St. Kilda
Designer Nora Kogan‘s Brooklyn-based line, St. Kilda, pushes the boundaries of fine jewelry incorporating creative designs such as her Matchstick earrings or surrealist-inspired, Man Ray lip-cuffs. Highlights from her latest collection include Temptation studs in 18k gold with green rosecut tourmalines, green amethyst Arcadia Snake rings and enamel Endless Love rings, featuring blue topaz stones on matching blue enamel snake bands. With many of her designs being inspired from the “forbidden” theme, it’s no wonder these pieces are so tempting!

FELIKS+ADRIK
FELIKS + ADRIK is the newest star to the market that launched just over a year ago. Think New York edge giving Low Luv a run for their money, but with price points that will leave you a little extra doe for that dinner at Boa you’ve been thinking of. The two designers started the brand in New York in 2010, but now reside in the enchanting neighborhood of Los Angeles, Mount Washington. FELIKS (‘lucky’) + ADRIK (‘dark’) are Russian names chosen to evoke a masculine tone with a playful spirit – two elements which clearly shine through in their pieces. View the entire collection at Shopbop.

Mawi
It’s official, statement necklaces are here to stay. Mawi offers some of the most desired options in the market. With bold designs, their pieces are not for the faint at heart. Indian-born designer Mawi Keivom started her namesake accessories line in 2003 after starting out in womenswear at Isaac Mizrahi in New York. The scene-stopping necklaces have been worn by the likes of Alexa Chung (above), Olivia Palermo, and Harper’s Bazaar’s Johanna Hillman.

Jennifer Behr Accessories
When Jennifer Behr entered the accessory scene, bloggers & editors took notice right away. Jennifer offers a range of luscious headpieces, each with it’s own appeal. Headpiece designs change season to season, with past styles including delicate crystals, braided ropes and ethereal silk chiffons. Her latest collection features a modern take on the turban, with knotted suede, hand-studded with various shapes of gold dome studs. Jennifer Behr accessories look stunning on the red carpet but look just as alluring with jeans and top. Deciding which one to buy is the only thing you’ll have to worry about – so many great options! And a small insider’s tip: they’ll make old styles for you — all you have to do is ask!

Sophia 203
With their silk-embroidered cuffs, love hearts, belts and butterfly-embossed headbands, it’s no wonder Sophia 203 seems to be popping up everywhere. It’s the perfect summer accessory. Swedish-born Sophia Edstrand uses a silk-embroidery technique that has long been associated with traditional Indian wedding ceremonies, which creates whimsical pieces that really come alive. The Standard, Downtown LA is the first to snatch these adorned summer beauties so get ‘em before they are gone.

EXCLUSIVE : Additional Pics Of Karl Lagerfeld For Macy’s

More sneak peeks of Karl Lagerfeld’s campaign for Macy’s were revealed yesterday, and today I have two sketches of the offerings the Kaiser has for America’s favorite department store. The two entities couldn’t seem to be more different, with one heading up two of the most high-brow (read: expensive) fashion houses in the world, and the other acting as the most ubiquitous mass, multi-brand shop in America. But, according to Macy’s vice president and fashion director Nicole Fischelis, the differences could be bridged: “We met with him and he knew who we wanted to reach. He gets it. He understands America very, very well.” Translation: the designs are extremely wearable, but still fashionable and may be a reach for department store regulars. They’re also way affordable, with the 45 styles ranging from $50 to $170. ‘The collection will be available on August 31 in almost 1/3 of all Macy’s locations. (WWD) I’m super excited 🙂

CONFIRMED: Kanye West Womenwear Label with Louis Goldin

The details of Kanye West’s upcoming womenswear label are coming hard and fast these days. Louise Goldin, who has not shown on the catwalk for the past two seasons, has been working with West, Goldin’s Central Saint Martins tutor Louise Wilson recently confirmed: “I can confirm that Kanye has been to visit me twice at Saint Martins and we have briefly discussed this collaboration . . . I think we can expect a well-considered collection, you wouldn’t expect less from a pair of professionals and I warn against dismissing it in haste. There are those who might assume Louise will be doing all the work and Kanye is just the face, I don’t believe this will be the case – he researches thoroughly and is hands on and committed to his work.”

Goldin and West have reportedly set up a studio in Paris, but Goldin is said to be keen to relocate to the United States, prompting rumors that West will show the label at New York Fashion Week.

West has also reportedly been working with Harper’s Bazaar Australia fashion editor and street style favorite Christine Centenera (above) on the line. Centenera met West in March at the Fall 2011 shows during Paris Fashion Week, and has since been flown to Paris twice monthly to work on the collection in a consulting capacity. When asked for comment, Centenera apparently replied that West is a very private person and that it’s not her place to comment.

Here’s a First Look at Karl Lagerfeld’s Macy’s Collection

WWD ran a rumor today suggesting that Macy’s was about to reveal Karl Lagerfeld’s much-anticipated collection for the department store. I’ve yet to witness said reveal, but I did see a Karl for Macy’s dress in August’s Vogue, via the glossy’s Steal of the Month column. (True Blood‘s Deborah Ann Woll is modeling it.) In the interview, Lagerfeld explains that the looks are inspired by the dresses he became famous for at Chloe. Given he worked there in the ’70s and everyone’s very into that style right now, it’s only right that that would be his inspiration. Are you excited for the collection after seeing this first look?! 😉 I am.

The High Line x UNIQLO

The High Line x UNIQLO

This idea is pretty amazing, The High Line and UNIQLO teamed up for a new outdoor roller-skating rink opening Thursday, July 28 to Monday, September 26, 2011. Admission will be free for the first 500 people on the first two days of operation thanks to UNIQLO.

Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and James Corner Field Operations, in partnership with HWKN, the High Line Rink comprises 8,000 square feet within The Lot, a temporary public plaza below the High Line at West 30th Street and 10th Avenue. Orange and white construction barriers illuminated by interior lighting mark the boundaries of the skating area, and the rink’s asphalt floor is painted with a white, geometric pattern that responds to the white grid painted on the area surrounding the rink. Along the rink, there is bench seating constructed with original steel beams that were removed from the High Line during the transformation of the structure into a public park.

Not only can you skate, you can also shop the UNIQLO Cube offering 100% cashmere in a large array of colors, ultra light down jackets, Heattech, UNIQLO T-Shirts which feature collaborative designs from popular Japanese manga characters, Barbie and the Save Japan! Project. The UNIQLO Cube at the High Line Roller Rink kicks off an exciting campaign that will spread the UNIQLO brand message, Made For All, across the metropolitan area.

Between July 28 and September 26, the High Line Rink will be open daily, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM Sunday through Wednesday, and 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM Thursday through Saturday. Regular admission to the High Line Rink will cost $10 for children under age 13 and $12 for adults. Children under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The admission fee will be waived for non-skating parents or guardians accompanying children under age 13. The admission fee will include a pair of rental skates, and will not be waived for guests who would like to use their own roller-skates and roller-blades. The High Line Rink will be operated by Friends of the High Line and United Skates of America.

I’m definitely stopping by, sounds super cool!

Juicy Couture Fall 2011 Lookbook

Frida Gustavsson and Shannon Click  shared the spotlight in Juicy’s Couture’s Fall 2011 lookbook.  The lookbook was shot by Claudia Knoepfel and Stefan Indlekofer. Juicy Couture brings fresh everday wear pieces for those cold Autumn days and nights. The lookbook features the brand’s casual tees, dresses, and denim, cropped knit sweaters, furry coats, print dresses, side slit trousers, polka dot cardigans, sailor tops, cool shades, candy colored bags, and funky jewelry accessories.

I’m so looking forward to its arrival in stores. Just staring at this lookbook has me already dreaming of my fall outfits. Can’t wait!

Go Native! Tribal-Inspired Pieces

It’s a wild, wild world. Take a nod from the Spring 2011 runways of Missoni (left) and Suno and mix up your Summer wardrobe with a smattering of tribal-inspired prints and vividly exotic patterns. Go rustic with woven Aztec-style accessories or glean inspiration from Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2011 collection and add drama by pairing indigenous prints with deep, bold black. African fabrics, native plaids, playful ikat; don’t be afraid to pile them on.

Miu Miu Women’s Tales: “MUTA” by Lucrecia Martel

Miu Miu Womens Tales: MUTA by Lucrecia Martel

Miu Miu presents their second Women’s Tales, a series of short films exploring the feminine love affair, MUTA directed by Argentinean Lucrecia Martel. MUTA meaning both “mute” and “transformation”, is a beautiful and cryptic portrayal of an all-female world of symbolism, hidden meaning and intrigue. The set was taken place onboard a ship in a tropical sea featuring Miu Miu’s Fall 2011 collection and Noir sunglasses collection.

Martel’s singular film is a mesmerizing personal reflection on the transformative power of femininity at the heart of the Miu Miu obsession. MUTA follows Zoe Cassavetes’ opulent and dreamy tale The Powder Room and will be followed by two more short films by distinctive female filmmakers, to be announced soon.

This is just a teaser, the short film premieres tonight in Los Angeles. Beautiful right? Below are stills of the film.
