H&M Conscious Collection Fall 2011

Back in July you’ve seen a preview of H&M‘s Fall 2011 Conscious Collection, now here’s a look at the full collection. The Fall 2011 collection was inspired by the sweet romance of Swedish folklore, each piece in the collection is made with more sustainable materials like organic cotton or linen to recycled wool and organic hemp. The ladylike collection features embroidered wool coats, lace blouses, floral printed dresses and shoes. There are also some exclusive homeware pieces such as a printed throw and cushions. The Conscious Collection will be available in selected H&M stores from October 6th.

Pharrell & Palladium Presents Tokyo Rising Campaign

On Wednesday night there was a screening for Tokyo Rising – an urban exploration film with Pharrell Williams, presented by Palladium Boots. Tokyo Rising documents Pharrell as he explores Tokyo’s hidden treasures, interviews locals, connecting with some of the city’s prominent creative forces like Verbal and Yoon from Ambush- LOVE HER! and uncovers an inspiring resiliency in Tokyo, Japan in the aftermath of the events of 3/11. The film is part of Palladium’s Fall/Winter 2011 ad campaign that just launched yesterday.

“Palladium’s core message is about urban exploring and putting your boots on to find out what’s beyond the tourist guidebook,” said Barney Waters, vice president of marketing for Palladium. “Tokyo is one of the great cities of the world and we felt there was a whole layer of the city’s story that wasn’t being told in the aftermath of the natural disaster of 3/11.  We wanted to go back and see for ourselves how the young creative class was dealing with the aftermath, and what their vision was for the vibrant future of Tokyo.”

“I find great inspiration in Tokyo from the people,” said Pharrell Williams. “To me, the way that the Japanese people regard life and culture is completely unmatched. Tokyo is my second home and I jumped at the chance to come back and reconnect with friends during the exploration.”

This film just reminds me how much I love Tokyo and need to get back there immediately. There is something about being over there that makes you aware of how much better we all could be living. If you haven’t been, you need to take a trip over there NOW! Check out the film and shop Palladium Boots at www.palladiumboots.com.

J Brand to Launch Sportswear in Spring

*Photo: WWD

WWD reports today that J Brand is launching a full sportswear collection, to hit stores in spring 2012. Expect a muted color palette of black, white, grey and pale pastels; the feeling is minimal, without prints.

Cropped coats, like a khaki mackintosh and a lambskin bomber, will perfectly complement the brand’s jeans. Donald Oliver, the design director who’s heading up the launch, told WWD, “We just didn’t want to look at [our customer] as working or going out. It’s about building an aspirational wardrobe for our girl.” To this end, expect wax-coated cotton trousers, hand-knit sweaters, and a linen blazer with leather trim.

The line will launch in 60 of the brand’s current 2,500 retail locations. Expect prices to range from $200 to $1,500. The brand is also hoping to open flagships in London or New York, with the five year goal of a flagship in every major fashion city. If all goes well, J Brand will expand into shoes, handbags, and men’s sportswear (which is already in the works.)

I can’t wait to see the first must-have item that will inevitably come out of J Brand’s first collection. 🙂

Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibit Likely Headed to London

The “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit at the Met’s Costume Institute, which set attendance records and was extended — by both days and opening hours — until the museum couldn’t extend it further (the galleries it was housed in needed to be turned over for a new exhibit), is likely headed to London.

McQueen released the following statement after a petition to bring the exhibit to London was mounted: “Alexander McQueen appreciates the huge amount of interest the public has shown towards the Savage Beauty exhibition. We have been in discussion with a number of major venues in London for some time now, however nothing has been finalized. Please be assured that an official announcement will be made the moment we confirm our plans for London.”

The goal is reportedly to show the exhibit in London in 2013, for the label’s twentieth anniversary.

It’s a Mod, Mod World

Take inspiration from the swinging ’60s — and the Fall 2011 collections of Prada (left), Celine, and Yves Saint Laurent — with these Mod-lined pieces. Mary Quant basics — shift dresses, pleated minis, and structured knits — get a current-day twist in jewel tone hues and pop-art prints, while accessories get fit in colorblock and python trim.
