Missoni for Target Shopping Frenzy Crashes Retailer’s Site !!!

Well, we could have seen this coming: The excitement around the 400-piece Missoni for Target collection–and the millions of eager shoppers–have crashed the retailer’s website.
At 6:04 am, Target tweeted that the online exclusives were now available for purchase on their site; by 6:46 am, the entire collection was up on their site–But a mere hour later, tweeters were reporting issues with the site, and by 10:00 am the retailer began responding to complaints and acknowledged the site was down. At 10:30 am, the retailer confirmed that “the overwhelming demand for #MissoniforTarget ended up taking our site down.”
Cue a million disappointed shoppers. But while you may have missed a good night’s sleep in anticipation of the collection, don’t get too despondent. Target, via their very responsive twitter account @TargetStyle, is assuring customers that the site should be back up soon, promising an estimate at around 11:00am today. (At 11:15. Still down.)
And for those willing to risk life and limb for one of the collaboration’s zig-zagged pieces–you can always try one of Target’s brick and mortar stores, of which the retailer assures us “many” will be restocking the collection, though I can only imagine the frenzy there.
Have you been to a Target store this morning? Tell me what you got….
Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012
Cohesiveness was the word at the packed-in, high-energy outing for Marc Jacobs’ secondary line earlier this evening. Swapping time slots with the main collection, this Monday night Marc by Marc offering felt refreshingly grown-up and pared-down: Mix-and-match separates in easy-wearing silhouettes got a high-octane kick with some clever color combining — poppy neons with navy, stony khakis with coral — while structural details like mini bubble-peplums added a hint of elevated cool to shift dresses, jumpsuits, and pencil skirts. There was an easy quirkiness at play here as well, one that appeared in the form of striped halter-neck swimsuits, sporty ruffled T-shirt dresses, and jumbo high-top sneakers. Loved this collection!!!!!!

FASHION’S NIGHT OUT NYC 2011 RECAP
Empty plastic champagne glasses and discarded goodie bags still litter the streets of New York and are now an homage to the second annual Fashion’s Night Out in New York.
From free manicures at Chanel, designer ping pong and karaoke contests at Barney’s, a fashion market inside the Ace Hotel, Polyvore contests at YSL and much, much more, this year’s FNO was something to be seen.
In a departure from last year, this year we decided to spend our time mainly downtown, which debuted an entirely different mix of patrons and style. The people watching was uncharacteristically satisfying and we were totally mesmerized by the amazing street style. It kept us entertained while we waited for our Rose Khaki manicures in line at Chanel☺.
But one thing we couldn’t help but notice was the lack of shopping bags to be seen. While FNO was started to drive commerce and get people comfortable with shopping again, as a participant you don’t really get the shopping itch. There is so much more to marvel at, from the people to the stores themselves, the DJs, celebrities, crowds and cocktails, that shopping feels like an afterthought.
It seems that stores are in a catch 22 situation; they need to flex their muscles by treating FNO as a branding exercise designed to drive PR, but they also want to facilitate sales. From the logistics to the one-upmanship that makes fashion the ultra addicting force that it is today, brands feel the need to provide added incentive to compete for traffic, and this incentive rarely has to do with merchandise. Once in store, it’s more about actually being there, in the middle of this elaborate scene the brand has created, and admiring the merchandise before moving on to the next place.
The stores with purchasers lined up seemed to be the smaller, independent stores, like Kisan in Soho where the owners were mingling and people were buying up things like Icelandic socks and Vanessa Bruno sweaters. At this location it was more about exploring the store through the merchandise, fraternizing and sipping a (very delicious) cocktail, which leaves us contemplating the dichotomy of merchandise versus entertainment as the focal point of FNO.
Fashion’s Night Out will continue to evolve year after year, brands will try different approaches, and the balance between branding and selling will inevitably shift back and forth.
As participants and spectators, it’s hard not to feel that this year was a total success and a must-go industry event. Fashion feels exciting and inspiration is everywhere. I am already in anticipation of next year.
See my pictures with Marc Jacobs below. Definitely, the highlight of my night 😉
It’s Official: Sex and the City The Carrie Diaries is Coming to the CW11!!
This rumor has been three years in the making. Seriously!!! Finally, in 2011, Deadline is confirming that Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries, is indeed set to go into production as a TV series on the CW.
The show is tapping former SATC writer Amy Harris and will be executive produced by Candace Bushnell, and Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. As of now, neither Sarah Jessica Parker nor Darren Star, both of whom produced Sex and the City on HBO, are involved. No word yet on if Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively, or Olsen little sis Lizzie, will star in the series.
Considering how the SATC sequel movies have gone, we don’t necessarily have high hopes for the TV show…But at least we’ll get to see a young Carrie try to pull of terrible 80s styles, right?

Between heightened security, including a row of cop cars lining Columbus Street in front of Lincoln Center, and moments of silence to remember lives lost, the 10 year anniversary of September 11was clearly at the forefront of everyone’s mind today. The shows still went on, so we caught up with fashion insiders and show-goers to find out how they were commemorating and coping with the fated day. Here’s how the fashion community and celebrities are responding to the tragedy:
Fern Mallis: “The first year we moved shows to London because nobody could cope with it. I canceled everything after Liz Lange’s show and was running around the tents telling people they had to clear the venue and stop what they were doing and tell people what happened. After the first season or two, we realized you can’t not go on. They win if we all stop doing everything that we do.”
Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Lincoln Center’s Director of Fashion: “There was a moment of silence for each time the planes hit here at Lincoln Center and many designers have donated to the 9/11 fund. But it’s a big business for NYC so the show has to go on, but with vigilance and remembrance.”
“I felt conflicted about whether we should show today or not,” said Lela Rose. “In the beginning I was very nervous about it but I also think it’s a wonderful day to be able to show. There’s something poignant about it and we are moving on but we need to remember what happened.”
“This is a great way to celebrate New York and the endurance and resilience of the city. Obviously we’ll never forget what the day is and what it’s all about, but I think it’s appropriate to carry on with life as long as you keep it in your heart,” said Mandy Moore.
“I think the best thing we can do to remember those that were killed is to live very full lives,” Susan Sarandon told us backstage at Lela Rose. “I was happy to be supportive of a friend. I thought it was a brilliant touch to start the show with Imagine because it’s such a positive song but at the same time recognizes the day in a subtle way all of the problems we’ve had.”
“It’s sad and I think we’re all a little bit tense,” said Tracy Reese backstage at her show. “But I think it’s still important to show that New York is still an exciting and vivacious city and we have survived. But we really wanted to commemorate the day so we donated to scholarship funds for children of 9/11 victims and also some funds that are doing work to help survivors.”
“Tomorrow I’m doing a fundraiser with Cantor Fitzgerald to raise money for victims’ families,” Aisha Tyler said backstage at Tracy Reese. “I hate to use the hyped phrase ‘letting the terrorists win’ but you have to live your life and I’m happy to be here supporting the artists and happy to support Cantor Fitzgerald and victims’ families tomorrow.”
“I was super somber this morning,” said native New Yorker Jamie-Lynn Sigler. “I sat in bed by myself and watched the memorial and I took place in a stage reading this week recounting people’s stories from 9/11 the day it happened. It’s hard, being from here we were all effected directly and I have to be honest, sometimes it feels a little weird to be here at a time like this but it’s a reminder of how strong people are.”
“This morning I woke up and I was just weeping because it was really a tough year for me. I gave birth to my son 6 days after 9/11 so I’ll never forget it. But we won’t be defeated and we need to celebrate life, so that’s why I’m out today and wore the brightest colors I could” said stylist June Abrose, who donned a bright fuchsia suit in her own design.

Marc Jacobs for Dior??
It’s been a few months since WWD granted column space to a Dior rumor, but today Marc Jacobs gets his name in big bold letters.
It was originally rumored that LVMH would wait to announce a successor until this fall, to give them time to weigh their options but also to keep the fall collection from being over-shadowed. So timing wise, the heated gossip that Marc Jacobs is their man, makes sense.
Jacobs has helmed the LVMH owned Louis Vuitton label for fourteen years, and should be negotiating that contract, but sources say they’ve switched gears and he, as well as business partner Robert Duffy and a team of lawyers, have been busy meeting with Bernard Arnault to talk about Dior (even though in 2003, Arnault told the trade paper, “Had I hired Marc Jacobs for Dior and John Galliano for Louis Vuitton, it would not have worked as well for both brands, even though both designers are geniuses of their own.”).
Meanwhile, sources also tell WWD that Lanvin‘s Alber Elbaz, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquiere and Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton have told Arnault that they’re not interested in leading Dior, leaving only Riccardo Tisci‘s name floating around near Jacobs’. With fashion week here, it shouldn’t be long before the year’s most important fashion question is answered.
The world is waiting with breath that baited… hmmm, stay tuned.
