The Softer Side of Colorblock

Colorblock has appeared on dozens of designers’ runways for the last three seasons, but it’s not all about Mondrian-style squares and hard-lined panels. As Carey Mulligan proved in a skin-baring Roksanda Ilincic frock at Comic-Con last week — and Karolina Kurkova attested earlier this month in a sweep of Sophie Theallet — the trend can be sweetly feminine and softly sexy as well. From Gucci’s artfully-draped Spring 2011 versions to the Fall 2011 Grecian styles on offer from Carlos Miele and Costello Tagliapietra, here’s a look at the softer side of colorblock.

Rachel Zoe is Designing a Kids Line

Apparently, Rachel thinks there are still some holes in Skyler’s wardrobe. In the full “Mommywood” episode, which aired last night, the stylist and designer revealed that she’s working on a kids clothing line. She told Juju Chang that she was disappointed to find that there were significantly more cute options for girls than boys, so she wants to launch a high-end clothing line for kids. “Let me tell you, there’s going to be a lot of boys clothes in my line, I’m just saying,” she told Chang.

The line will have some competition, both with Rachel’s several other jobs and the recent influx of adorable designer children’s lines, but her high profile and focus on boys should give the star stylist/designer a serious advantage. Super cute!

David Beckham for H&M Bodywear Line

David Beckham for H&M Bodywear Line

David Beckham has teamed up H&M to make his bodywear range for men. The bodywear line will be available in around 1800 H&M stores in around 40 countries worldwide. New bodywear products will be launched seasonally, this will be a long term partnership. The initial range will be launched to coincide with Valentine’s Day 2012 from February 2nd.

“Over the past year, I’ve been developing my Bodywear range with my team and I’m extremely positive about what we have designed and produced,” said David Beckham. “The final piece in the jigsaw was a retail partner who has the vision and capability to distribute these products globally. In H&M we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with going forward, I’m excited and looking forward to showcasing the range to H&M customers from February.”

Ladies get excited for your man because he”s the one that will be wearing it… hope none of you are thinking Beckham comes with the briefs- LMAO 😉

H&M Conscious Collection Fall 2011 Collection

Last season, H&M launched its enviromentally friendly collection, Conscious Collection, made from greener materials such as organic cotton, Tencel® and recycled polyester. The all white collection has been transformed into a richer and more ladylike collection for Fall 2011. For Fall, there will be more products added including a handbag, scarf, pillow and blanket. Love the rose print shoes and handbag, can’t wait till it releases! Stay tuned for more info coming up 😉 …

Sex and the City 3 Cast?

Over the past year, there have been several reports, many of them conflicting, that a Sex and the City prequel film may be in the works. The most fun guessing game has of course been the cast. Earlier this year, Blake Lively was rumored to be playing Carrie, but subsequently denied those rumors.

That may be because she’s actually playing Samantha alongside a slightly younger cast, reports the Daily Mail. According to the British tab, the rumored cast is: Blake Lively as Samantha Jones, Selena Gomez as Charlotte York, Emma Roberts as Miranda Hobbs and Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie Bradshaw. Here’s a supposed breakdown of the younger versions of the characters via Daily Mail:

Is Blake (sexually) aggressive enough to be Samantha? Selena WASP-y enough to be Charlotte? Emma tough enough to be Miranda? Elizabeth “fabulous” enough to be the inimitable Carrie? Maybe?

Plus, much of the film will likely be set in the ’80s, which can be hard to pull off if it’s not styled well. Though if anyone could do it, it would be Pat Field.

What do you think of the cast? Should this movie even happen?

EXCLUSIVE: A First Look at Balmain’s More Affordable Line, Pierre Balmain

Balmain’s new, more affordable line, Pierre Balmain, doesn’t start hitting stores until early December, but a first look at the debut collection, for Spring 2012 — is in order.

The new line covers everything from eveningwear to daywear, tailoring to jeans, and will be created by a separate design team from Olivier Rousteing, who is set to concentrate exclusively on the higher-end Balmain label. As Balmain chairman and CEO Alain Hivelin explains the dichotomy, Rousteing will make the “quintessentially Parisian” main collection “even more sophisticated and couture-like — without, of course, renouncing that ‘rock’ aesthetic that has been so important for us the last few years.” Whereas: “The Pierre Balmain collection translates the codes of Balmain in a more casual and relaxed manner … We see Pierre Balmain as a new and distinct brand that is inspired by the successes and history of a great house, but offers a look and product that respond to the needs and desires of today’s marketplace.”

Prices for Pierre Balmain — in light of the Balmain mainline’s infamously sky-high prices — are to range from $172 for T-shirts, $363 for jeans, and  up to $1,291 for eveningwear. Can’t wait !

The Fate of Amy Winehouse X Fred Perry

In addition to an unfinished album, Amy Winehouse also leaves behind the successful collection she designed for Fred Perry. Her collaboration with the British clothing brand began last year with a fall 2010 collection. Amy’s signature retro style is what inspired Fred Perry to approach her.

Richard Martin, Fred Perry’s marketing director told WWD last March, “Amy has a unique sense of style that reflects the brand’s own historical reference points.” It sounded like Amy was more involved with the design process than many celebrity designers. Martin also noted, “Amy gave crucial input on proportion, color and fit. The range clearly has Amy’s handwriting.”

Her spring 2011 collection launched in March and is currently no longer available on the Fred Perry website, but there are currently still two styles available on ASOS and a few things on eBay. While there hasn’t been any mention of another Fred Perry collection in the press as of late, there is a decent chance that we could be seeing another one, if not several. This past October, Amy told Harper’s Bazaar, “We’ve pretty much done like up to autumn/winter 2012, and I’m like, ‘Have we?’ Yeah!”

We reached out to Fred Perry for comment and were told the collection is “on hold until we speak with Amy’s family and management” and they are unable to comment on anything until then. If three more seasons have in fact been designed and if Amy’s unfinished third album is as likely to be released posthumously as multiple outlets are reporting, then we very likely haven’t seen the last of Amy’s designs. We hope there is more to come, as Amy seemed really proud and happy with the collections. In her interview with Bazaar, Polly Vernon asked Amy if she had an unfulfilled ambitions at that time, to which Amy responded, “Nope! If I died tomorrow, I would be a happy girl.”

KARDASHIANS FOR SEARS

The Kardashian Kollection will launch exclusively at 400 Sears stores, according to WWD. The juniors line of apparel, lingerie, jewelry, accessories and shoes will hit stores in August.

“Not only do they have locations nationwide, but we recognize that Sears will allow us to reach multigenerations of fans and people who are interested in fabulous clothing at affordable prices,” Khloe, 26, said.

According to Kourtney, 31, the sisters have already done a bit of market research. “We love Sears. There is a Sears right near our house,” she raved. “It’s such a great store that is part of America’s retail history.”

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars’ most recent retail venture, Kardashians by Bebe, will conclude with its Resort 2011 collection. I’m super excited 🙂 I am a huge fan!! Are you ???

Amy Winehouse’s Private Funeral Was Held This Morning

Amy Winehouse‘s family and friends—including Kelly Osbourne, who had her hair styled in a beehive after Winehouse’s iconic ‘do, and Mark Ronson—gathered at Edgewarebury Cemetery in north London this morning for a private funeral service for the departed singer. Her father Mitch Winehouse gave a eulogy before the service, one that closed with Carole King‘s “So Far Away.” Mourners reportedly gathered afterward at a local synagogue, before the singer was cremated and her family began to sit Shiva.

Winehouse’s untimely passing has spiked interest in revisiting her woefully small body of work; Back to Black is likely to re-enter album sales charts this week. Even still, Microsoft came under fire for encouraging followers of its UK PR Twitter account @tweetbox360 to remember the singer by downloading the album via Zune. Go get yours, I already got mine today 🙂

Amy Winehouse will always be remembered. She had an undeniable sound that no one can duplicate. She will truly be missed.
