Sneak Peek: Marni for H&M Collaboration to Hit Stores in March 2012

I’m still reeling from Versace for H&M mania–the collection launched barely two weeks ago–but H&M has just revealed their next designer collaboration. They’re sticking with the Italians for this next collab, and if you found Versace for H&M’s loud prints and studs a touch too much, this collection will deliver prints and color combinations that are just right. Get excited guys, because Marni is coming to an H&M near you on March 8.

“I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints,” Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni said in a statement. “As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colours, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic adding sporty utilitarian elements.”

In a video H&M has released to promote the collection, Castiglioni added, “I’m very proud of the result–everything has the same level of quality, craft and attention to detail that Marni is known for.” The video also offers a peek at the collection: a bold cobalt polka dotted suit, printed dresses, platform silver pumps, striped sweaters for men, and statement accessories worth waiting in line for. Style.com’s Tim Blanks makes a cameo in the video and calls Castiglioni a “thinking designer” who “aims for a sensuality of the mind.” Well said. We’re big fans of Marni’s intellectual quirkiness and striking color combos. Needless to say, we’re very excited about this one. Are you? Will you be camping out?

Lady Gaga Opens Her Holiday Workshop at Barneys With Cartoons and Couture

The long-awaited Gaga’s Workshop is now officially open at Barneys in New York.

Lady Gaga was on hand last night — in a custom Chanel couture dress, specially designed by Karl Lagerfeld for the occasion — to cut the ribbon and welcome inside the likes of Prabal Gurung, Carolyn Murphy, and Alexander Wang.

The store’s fifth floor is completely transformed until Jan. 2, filled with chocolate Alexander McQueen armadillo shoes, studded press-on nails, and candle replicas of Gaga’s head that cry when lit. Inflatable cartoonish sculptures and taxicab wraps promoted the opening around the city, and Barneys’s windows, too, have been Gaga-fied. “My favorite window I think is [the] one window that looks like my boudoir and it’s covered in blonde hair,” Gaga told WWD. “It’s gorgeous.”

Despite all the expenditure, Barneys expects to break even on the promotion, its chief executive Mark Lee said. Twenty-five percent of the workshop’s sales will go to Gaga’s new Born This Way Foundation, which focuses on youth empowerment; Lee added that the store hopes to raise over $1 million for the cause.
