The Tips: As with your skin, extra moisture will also keep your hair shiny and bouncy amid dry indoor heat and colder temps, but don’t forget to pay special attention to your scalp. Combat that tight, itchy feeling by using a shampoo that’s specially formulated with essential oils to relieve scalp tension, stimulate circulation, and clarify the hair. An at-home moisturizing treatment packs an extra punch too: Some hair treatments require you to hop out of the shower and wait for 20 minutes while the mask works its magic, but Michael Van Clarke’s 3 More Inches can be applied before bed to work overnight, can be mixed with water and sprayed on the hair as a leave-in treatment, and strengthens the hair shaft so that come spring, your hair will be total perfection.

The Tips: A dry, peeling, painful red nose happens to the best of us during the winter months because unless you’re bundled beyond recognition, your nose is inevitably exposed to cold, drying elements. Sadly, it doesn’t exactly go with that killer outfit you put together for New Year’s Eve. To combat dry, flaky skin, moisture is key and a gentle exfoliation helps too. Directly after exfoliating, apply an emollient moisturizer to prevent dry patches from reappearing.
With a freshly moisturized surface to work with, apply your foundation or tinted moisturizer as usual. Then, apply a second layer to your nose, nostrils, outside corners and upper lip using a dotting motion. Makeup artist Danielle Vincent recommends using a shade with some yellow-undertones to help neutralize the pink/red and apply with a fine concealer brush to get into small corners and around nostrils. Vincent also says to apply a pressed powder with a light-to-medium coverage using a dense sponge. Press the powder into the skin to help your makeup stay put and to provide additional opacity to block out any redness.

The Tips: Finally, don’t neglect your nails and cuticles—they get just as dehydrated as your face and body during the winter months. And, according to Nonie Creme, founding creative director of Butter London, the most important thing for keeping your nails in line is consistency. “By using Melt Away once a week followed by gently pushing back, exfoliating, and moisturizing, you can literally train your cuticles to be softer, smaller, and consistently hydrated,” she says. We even got her to spill a manicurist secret: “To prevent chips and dings, when painting use your thumb to gently pull the skin away from each fingertip and apply a little lacquer to the end of every nail, wrapping the color all the way around the underneath. Then apply the rest of your shade as normal. Let nails dry before applying the topcoat and your nail color should last 1-3 days longer.”
