MY TOP PICKS FROM THE GOLDEN GLOBES 2011

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES

The radiantly ageless and beautiful Catherine Zeta-Jones, in green for the Globes, wears a surprisingly light and frothy
Monique Lhuillier gown.

MANDY MOORE

Mandy Moore’s Monique Lhuillier mermaid chiffon dress has just the right amount of drama for the petite singer-actress.

LEA MICHELE

The pastel peach color of this ruffled Oscar de la Rental gown takes Lea Michele’s look to almost-Barbie,
but still delightfully modern.

MILA KUNIS

The unique texture and flattering shape of Mila Kunis’ Vera Wang look stands out from the other emerald dresses
we saw on the red carpet.

CLAIRE DANES

Claire Danes masters the elegance of minimalism with a punchy pink halter gown by Calvin Klein Collection.

LIPSTICK CAN BRIGHTEN UP THESE GLOOMY WINTER DAYS !!

If wherever you’re reading from today is anything like New York City, than you’re probably frozen, sick of tights, and completely over snow (and yes, it’s really only January). Lucky for you I’ve got a two-second trick that’ll instantly put you in a better—and brighter—mood

Since your lips are the only thing showing, what with the whole hat-coat-scarf situation, than you might as well shine the spotlight on ‘em in a big way! Whether it’s fuchsia or fire engine red (like our models are wearing here) or tangerine orange (which I’m currently rocking), wearing bold color isn’t as tricky as it looks—and it makes you instantly look more put-together. I can personally attest to the fact that it really works: Running late and only seconds to go from hot mess to just hot, I reached for one of my go-to happy shades, MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger and swiped on some black mascara—instant game-changer. (And I admit, I use this trick a lot! Here’s 7 more sexy lip tips to try from makeup artist, Jun Funahashi, who created these gorgeous pouts:

1. Rub on a layer of moisturizing balm and use an eyebrow brush to gently slough off dry skin.

2. Add concealer to the outer corners of your mouth before applying lipstick, “This is a spot where color tends to bleed,” she says.

3. Make ‘em kiss-proof by filling in lips with liner. Then apply lipstick, blot, and add another layer of color. For more staying power, cover with a thin layer of tissue and dust translucent powder on top.

4. Get perfect edges using a lip brush. Start at the outer corners on both top and bottom and work your way into the center using one fluid motion.

5. Erase mistakes by tracing along the outside of the lip line with a small, stiff brush dipped in foundation.

6.To fake a fuller pout, add a dot of silver or gold shadow above the middle of your lips and stick to glossier textures.

7. Don’t overload on color everywhere—if you’re wearing a vibrant shade all you need is mascara, she adds.

RACHEL ZOE SNEAK PEAK AT HER FIRST COLLECTION IN A SHOOT SHE STYLED FOR WWD.

A-MAZ-ING!!

If you thought Rachel Zoe had toned it down what with her pregnancy and skipping out on Milan and Paris spring fashion weeks, think again.

Not one to be slowed down by pregnancy, the superstar stylist has been keeping plenty busy working on her first line, the Rachel Zoe Collection, and having it all filmed for the fourth season of her popular Bravo reality show.

Zoe, seven months pregnant, and her sizable entourage (Bravo crew included) stopped by WWD to style a shoot for the paper with a few looks from her forthcoming collection. The collection is pure Zoe–tailored (there’s plenty of suiting, including, according to WWD, a le smoking-esque tuxudo jumpsuit), dramatic, with a ’70s flare. Even though, Zoe says, ““I’d imagine everybody is expecting something from me that’s kind of a Seventies, uberboho-glam kind of thing, and, you know, very accessorized. And it’s not.”

Unlike Zoe’s small affordable collection for QVC, the Rachel Zoe Collection will be a contemporary line which includes outerwear (with capes galore, obviously), shoes (four inch high stilettos with massive platforms, obviously) and handbags (Zoe literally screamed when she saw the first sample). Prices will range from $250 for a day dress up to $700 for a full tuxedo look. Zoe’s manufacturing firm Li & Fung say they haven’t secured any retailers yet, but Zoe says she envisions the collection on the racks next to Alexander Wang and DVF and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Of course, the Zoe tornado couldn’t tear through WWD without leaving some gossip detritus behind. Zoe apparently let slip numerous times that she’s having a boy (I hope he likes vintage!), and that while she’s skipping the fall shows this coming February since docs have ordered her to “slow down,” she will still be there by Anne Hathaway’s side at the Oscars, eight months pregnant and in four inch heels to oversee Hathaway’s outfit changes. And apparently we’re to be on the lookout for a “leggy brunette” named Mandana who has replaced Brad.

KANYE WEST/KIRKWOOD/STELLA McCARTNEY & MORE DESIGNER COLLABORATIONS OF 2011

SUPER EXCITED ABOUT ALL THESE COLLABORATIONS FOR 2011. I’LL BE SURE TO LET MY FOLLOWERS KNOW WHEN EXACTLY THEY’LL BE RELEASED. BE ON THE LOOK OUT 🙂

Kanye West x Everyone
West has showed a penchant for eclectic collaborations with his single, “All of the Lights,” which
features everyone from Kid Cudi to–wait for it–Elton John! For 2011 the self-proclaimed fashion lover needs to expand his capacity for fashion collabs beyond the legendary Air Yeezy sneakers to shoes with Toms, khaki’s with J.Crew, furs with Fendi and beyond!

Nicholas Kirkwood x Pleaser Shoes
What with his new store in London’s posh Mayfair neighborhood and all, it’s clear that Kirkwood is a class act. But life has taught us that every now and then, there’s nothing wrong with stepping into your smuttier side. Hence: Kirkwood x Pleaser Shoes. Pleaser, loved by the best “exotic” dancers you’ll ever meet, is accomplished at creating patent and Lucite platform numbers. Croc-trimmed Lucite heels anyone?

Mary Katrantzou x Marimekko
‘Nuf said.

But we’ll elaborate: The Central Saint Martins grad who is already legendary for her prints and the historic Finnish label, already legendary for it’s prints could be …

Stella McCartney x Reece Hudson
Lux leather and rich colors are the hallmark of what makes up-and-coming accessories line Reece Hudson so dope. Sexy, sophisticated design and a strict aversion to leather are what make Stella McCartney dope. Like a carnivore married to a vegan, a collaboration between these two could lead to an interesting–if not permanent–union.

Jeremy Scott x Public School
Jeremy Scott epitomizes a quirky urban style sensibility to begin with. For 2011 why not go all the way with a collaboration with one of the chicest urban brands in town, Public School? Denims that fit just-so with a leather crotch could be a site to behold.

Norma Kamali x Nike
“Ni-Li” if you will. Afterall, all those soft, draped jersey body suits are just as good for a night on the town as they are for a day at yoga. A lining here, a mesh insert there and you are set to be the most stylish student in your work out class. We’re just saying: Just do it!

Lacoste x LeSportsac
There’s no major impetus for this besides the sheer joy of alliteration that comes with saying
Lacoste and LeSportsac. Ditto the opportunity to call this collaboration, La’Sportsac. But our witty way with words aside, this could make for one of the lightest–and brightest–gym bags known to man.

Nina Ricci x Theory
Is this too much to ask of the universe? Perhaps. But that won’t keep us from dreaming. Taking
Olivier Theyskens’ new Theory line and designing an evening wear collaboration between Nina Ricci and Theyskens new eponymous line at Theory could be an instant best seller. We imagine Etta James softly cooing her signature song at the private editor preview. After all, art and
commerce have united. At last.

ME IN TOKYO….

THOSE OF YOU THAT KNOW ME, KNOW THAT I LOVE  TOKYO. IF I COULD LIVE THERE I WOULD. BUT FOR NOW I SETTLE FOR GOING OVER THERE EVER SO OFTEN. I LOVE THE FASHION, THE PEOPLE AND THE CULTURE. IF YOU HAVEN’T EXPERIENCED IT, YOU HAVE TO. IT TOTALLY CHANGES YOUR PROSPECTIVE ON EVEN HOW WE LIVE HERE IN NYC. BUY THAT FLIGHT AND OPEN YOUR MIND TO NEW HORIZONS. 😉

5 Fashion Switch-Ups For 2011

1. Ditch The Black Bag— I love a great basic as much as anyone, but this winter, we’re breaking out of our rut and switching mom’s classic black tote for something a whole lot juicier. Even on a frigid overcast day, you can’t NOT smile when you grab any of these bright bags.

2. Make Blush Your Go-To Makeup—After so many seasons of bold lips and eyes, we’re turning our makeup routine over to bright and rosy blush. Not only does an extra flush of pink or peach brighten up the whole face, it’s a quick and easy way to wake up your makeup look without a million steps. Sign us up!

3. Swap Out Your Statement Necklace For Some Big-Ass Earrings—Again, don’t be discarding all your gorgeously gargantuan baubles. Instead, pack up the bulk of them and make room for a pair of two of statement earrings (tip: Scour ebay for some great, affordable vintage rhinestone earrings or even borrow your mom’s old ’70s hoops). With the season’s clean, low bun, there’s nothing more glamorous (and simple!).

From left: Derek Lam spring 2011 runway look, photo courtesy of Derek Lam; Gap 1969 Wide Leg Jeans, $79.99, available at Gap; Madewell Skinny Rocker Jeans, $110, available at Madewell.

4. Trade In Your Skinnies—Don’t get me wrong, I’m not exactly discarding our favorite skinny jeans, but with so many new high-waisted, wide-leg styles coming on the scene for spring, we’re feeling altogether longer and leaner already. Because really exaggerated flares don’t look great on smaller women, stick to the modified ’70s look that’s narrow at the waist with a clean straight leg. And heels are an absolute must.

.5. Get A Muse-Worthy Haircut—I’ve been obsessed with It-Model du jour, Arizona Muse, and her versatile ’40s bob seems like the freshest cut going for spring. It’s a lot of look to pull off, but this year, there’s no hiding on the sidelines. If you’re ready to make a big hair change…there’s no better time than the present. And this elegant bob gets our seal of approval!
