Leather skirts have always been a wardrobe mainstay, but this season’s version is full-skirted, feminine — and suddenly everywhere. Whether softly pleated or hyper flared, the voluminous silhouette feels totally fresh for right now — and will take you straight through to Spring.See below for a bit of styling inspiration, straight from the chic streets of Milan, Paris, and London. Love these looks…

The last thing you want to be is a fashion victim, but sometimes, trends are an opportunity to test your sartorial boundaries. Because what’s fashion without a little risk, right? Last February’s fall runways had a wide variety of wackadoo looks that left us scratching our heads, as per usual. But, now that I’ve had a few months to mull them over, I’ve decided on six that I feel good about trying out. Leave your inhibitions in the closet… here are the six weirdest fall trends worth trying out. Who knows, you might end up loving them!
Pilgrim-Chic — Stoic, modest, and sleek…the pilgrims knew a thing or two about minimalist dressing. We like the idea of a floor-length body-con dress paired with a killer pair of buckled shoes.
Lodis Tanzania Buckle Belt, $48, available at Lodis; Topshop Twist Front Maxi Dress, $100, available at Topshop; Fluevog Britta Shoe, $189, available at Fluevog.
Overalls — These ain’t your Cabbage Patch Kids’ coveralls. Think about the overall as an updated version of the jumpsuit, and pick pairs that have tapered legs, a close-fitting shape, and a fun fabric.
Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony Overalls, $276, available at Opening Ceremony; Steven Alan Atticus Overall, $288, available at Steven Alan.
Oversized Coats — Choose a too-boxy option, and an oversized coat will look more comical than chic. A good rules- Coats should still fit you in the shoulders and armpits. Only the body and sleeves should have volume.
Cheap Monday Egg Coat, $194, available at ASOS (also available for $158 at Oak)- Diesel Black Coat, $549, available at Coggles.
Crafty Crochet — Doilies, afghan blankets, quilts…your grandma’s crocheting habit should remain in her home, and not on your body. Instead, play toward this trend with an intricately crocheted top in a silky thread.
Miss Selfridges Pink Top, $51, available at Miss Selfridge; M Missoni Crochet Skirt, $645, available at Net-a-Porter.
Jeeves’ Uniform — We’re obsessed with the idea of wearing a slim tuxedo to this season’s holiday parties. Choose a bright jacket in a slim silhouette for a fun twist on the look.
Elliot Tux Pant, $248, available at Barneys.
The Formal Pajama — Instead of the literal pajama details, opt for silhouettes that are less boxy and more high-fashion. Just make sure the prints match… that’s all part of the fun! Or, break it apart and wear the silk pajama top as a cardigan. In a fun print, it’ll be a cheeky way to layer this fall.
VF Leaves Pant, $285, available at DVF; DVF Arianda Top, $398, available at DVF; Alexa Chung for Madewell Pajama Top, $200, available at Madewell.
Incorporate a little edge into your wardrobe — and get into the end-of-Fall spirit — with these prettified skull jewels. Whether in high-shine silver, soft rose gold, or studded with diamonds, these moody pieces look a little elegant, a little dangerous — and just right for the season. Here, our picks from the best pieces around — from Bing Bang’s barely-there studs to Pamela Love’s candy-hued statement necklace see below. 🙂

It’s time to face the cold, hard facts: Winter is coming. And no, we’re not talking about Game of Thrones. After months of waiting, it’s finally our favorite dressing time of year again. That’s right, pack up those sandals, as our beloved boot season has finally kicked off…which makes me very excited. Now comes the hard part: What kind do you buy? Ranging from modern combat clompers to classic suede pistol boots, the choices of women’s boots for fall are seemingly endless, but trust us, it’s that perfect mix of utility and sophistication that scores top honors in my book. Right here, I’ve done some fancy footwork and rounded up the best boots of the season to keep your tootsies warm and dry while also putting a whole lot of extra style in your stride. While pilfering from the guys is nothing new — the Fall 2011 runways of DKNY, Ralph Lauren, and Marc Jacobs were chock-full of menswear-inspired styles, from tuxes to tweed — I’ve taken the concept one step further and gathered up some of the coolest meant-for-men pieces around. In fact, these styles are so chic, it would be a crime to let the boys keep them to themselves; there’s a chartreuse Jil Sander “document holder” that would make the perfect oversized clutch, a slim-cut teal blazer that would look so chic over a floral dress, and much, much more. Check out the pics below 😉

Keep the bright days of Summer going well into Fall by gleaning a little inspiration from this street-snapped look, straight from the streets of London Fashion Week. While it may be tempting to play it safe by teaming bright pants with neutral basics, this ensemble prooves that mixing it up can be way more chic. The secret to getting it right? Use basic color theory and keep the main colors within the same color temperature. Here, cool teal blue works well with the merlot hue of the top, tying in perfectly with the purple undertones of the bag. A neutral fur vest and black shoes ground the look; a mint bracelet provides a bit of tonal pop. Click through to shop our similar finds to make this style your own.

The spring ’12 shows were, in a word, comfortable. The trends might not have been groundbreaking, and the looks might not have been revolutionary, but—oh, boy—did I want it all!! The runways read like a synopsis of all my greatest hits: preppy staples, tomboyish sensibilities, vintage inspirations, and loads of colors and prints… If you didn’t have the opportunity to sit front row at all the shows, it’s no sweat. I’ve hashed out the top 10 trends from spring ’12 NYFW that I’m going to start experimenting with, stat!
Sherbet Hues: Fluorescent looks are mellowing out for spring, and more muted hues like apricot, mint green, and lilac are dominating. Alice and Olivia spring ’12; Preen spring ’12; Luca Luca spring ’12; Phillip Lim spring ’12
Hoodies: Thank your designers, ladies. The casual, more-than-comfy hoodie just got a stylish kick in the seat. Whether in a chic anorak-style or under a blazer (who knew we’d ever be taking style advice from Brody Jenner?), the modern hoodie is more streamlined than shrubby.Band of Outsiders spring ’12; Y-3 spring ’12; Charlotte Ronson spring ’12; Rag & Bone spring ’12..
Knit Dresses: Those obsessed with body-con styles should have found their new go-to piece. In open-weave, loose knits, and patchwork styles, sweater dresses hug in all the right places while providing plenty of coziness.Jen Kao spring ’12, T by Alexander Wang spring ’12; Rag & Bone spring ’12, Rebecca Taylor spring ’12.
The Little White Dress: Nearly every designer included a white dress in their collection. Stark, precious, preppy, and sexy versions abounded…but be careful with your coffee cup around this trend! Altuzarra spring ’12; Jason Wu spring ’12; Suno spring ’12; Preen spring ’12.
Sporty Mesh: Not reserved exclusively for P.E. classes anymore, sporty mesh is getting a high-fashion makeover in the form of body-hugging frocks, casual tanks, and everyday jackets.Alexander Wang spring ’12; Vera Wang spring ’12; Altuzarra spring ’12; Rag & Bone spring ’12.
Prints On Prints On Prints : For advanced mixologists only, please! Those who love their spots, florals, and stripes should be having a field day with this mashed-up print trend. Diane Von Furstenberg spring ’12; Karen Walker spring ’12; Kelly Wearstler spring ’12; Suno spring ’12.
One-Shouldered Looks:This trend has been strong for a few seasons, but it’ll definitely be most prevalent this spring. Tennis players, rejoice! Jenny Packham spring ’12; Diane Von Furstenberg spring ’12; Helmut Lang spring ’12; Luca Luca spring ’12.
Peplums:Peplums are super-flattering, but a little tweenish for our tastes. Thankfully, designers this season roughed up the saccharine flounce and injected some sass. Suno spring ’12; Vera Wang spring ’12; Jason Wu spring ’12; Alexandre Herchcovitch spring ’12.
The Short Suit: ’40s styles were everywhere, but our favorite specific look had to be the tailored short suit. Three-button styles were also popular…and a look we’re willing to consider.Karen Walker spring ’12; Rebecca Minkoff spring ’12; Marc By Marc Jacobs spring ’12; Proenza Schouler spring ’12.
Fluorescent Orange: In some form or another, orange seems to be permanently on the runways, but this iteration of the juicy hue is our favorite yet. We love the idea of a highlighter-bright orange dress paired with nude accessories.
