Dangerously Chic — Porcupine Quills Are Everywhere

Savage beauties. Lisa Salzer’s Spring-Summer 2011 collection for Lulu Frost featured necklaces and earrings dripping with porcupine quills, and ever since we’ve been spotting the torturous little spines everywhere. This season’s batch of quill accessories incoporate luxe elements (think gold-plating, vivid hues, crystal studs) with an earthy tribal vibe that’s inticingly exotic and supremely gorgeous. Love it all!!

Noticed At Couture: Hiss Miss!!

Serpentine accessories slithered onto the scene during Couture. Tommy Ton snapped Anna Dello Russo (above left) wearing her snake-inspired bracelets during the Paris week, while Giovanna Battaglia toted her Bulgari Serpenti bag (above right). Looking to get your own? Try Aurélie Biedermann’s twining earrings ($215, available at www.mytheresa.com), Chloé’s two-tone satchel (for information, visit www.chloe.fr), or Gaia Repossi’s black gold and pave diamond ring ($16,615, available at www.barneys.com). Aloha Rag X Converse Jack Purcell Zip Shoe

I’m a huge fan of Converse and love their collaborations, I found this Aloha Rag x Converse Jack Purcell Zip Shoe pretty damn cute. I own a few any Jack Purcell shoes but I might need a pair of these. These shoes were made to celebrate Aloha Rag’s 20th anniversary featuring the high-top “Zip” silhouette, an off-white sole with an upper that combines crinkle blue, white leather and cool blue linen. As a part of Converse First String, Converse’s premium product line that celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and pure expression, only 166 pairs will be available. The shoe will be available at Aloha Rag stores in New York City and Honolulu and online at aloharag.com beginning July 1, 2011. The shoe will be available at Converse First String retailers beginning July 15. Shoes will be available for the suggested retail price of $120 in sizes 3 – 13. 🙂

Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals Spring/Summer 2012

It would be an understatement to call the ongoing Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals collection polarizing. For as long as JS has been cooking up models for adidas they have generated responses at opposite ends of the spectrum. Well, hate it or love it, you can’t deny that the man is pushing the creative limits of sneaker design. We’re here with a preview of the Spring/Summer 2012 line and there look to be plenty more off the wall designs in store. Pictured below is one of the more tame models, an all denim version of the popular JS Wings (LOVE!!). GOTTA HAVE the leopard ones they are just crazy, but Jeremy is still in beast mode, with a Gorilla adorned sneaker coming our way. Also featured in the preview is an American flavored JS Wings model, which will likely hit around Independence Day next year. Below is a sneak preview at all of the upcoming shoes from the Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Which ones are you getting? 😉

House of Harlow Launches Handbags for Fall 2011

Nicole Richie is adding handbags to her House of Harlow 1960 collection. Priced from $150 to $625, the new offering features clutches, hobos, and cross-body bags in a mix of materials like calfskin or vintage leather with detailing such as studs or fringe. “The collection is quite small in terms of the styles we are launching with. I wanted to make sure that each piece is special,” Richie explained of the 14-piece selection. “Handbags have always been a part of the equation since we first launched the House of Harlow 1960 brand. We just needed to make sure all of the components were aligned before setting foot into that category.” The pieces will be available starting mid-July at Bergdorf Goodman, Shopbop, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus. Some are also currently available for pre-order at Singer22.

4 New Ways To Show Your Stripes

With Bretons, seersucker, and all manners of horizontal lines dominating the racks this summer, it’s no understatement that stripes are starting get a little trite. But, that doesn’t mean that something fresh isn’t on the horizon–we’ve got some ideas on how to shop for stripes without falling back on nautical and French themes. This guide has got all the charm of the old ways, but with a couple of twists that are brand spankin’ new (just the way we like it!).

All Cut Up—Patchwork stripes add movement and take normally stuffy styles to a new level that’s thoroughly eclectic. In this case, the busier the better—trust us.  Above, from left: Free People Lookbook July ’11, image via Free People; ASOS Twist & Tango Mix Stripe Drawstring Waist Dress, $65.51, available at ASOS; Style Stalker Stripe T Layer Dress, $83, available at Pixie Market.

Block Party—Exaggerated, elongated colorblock is a great way to sport stripes without getting lost in the crowd. Plus, you’ll find thick portions of bold, bright colors that stand out from the crowd of black, blue and white.
Above, from left: Splendid Different Degrees Maxi Dress, $178, available at Anthropologie; Whistles Holly Linen Stripe Sweater, $137.91, available at ASOS; ADAM Colorblock Long Halter Dress, $395, available at Shopbop.

Textural Healing—Never take a trend too literally. Stripes become subtle and understatedly chic when you go for a pattern that’s made of textures instead of varying colors. Plus, this fits in great with the latest monotone trend!
Above, from left: MikkatMarket Lace Ruffle Top, $35, available at Mikkat Market; Topshop High Neck Stripe Tank, $30, available at Topshop; Rag & Bone Stretch-cotton Maxi Dress, $195, available at Net-A-Porter.

Go Long&mdash:Vertical stripes have long been the direction of choice for referees (and pretty much only them), but we have a feeling that the top-to-bottom stripe will make its return. Get in on the trend early with these three options.
Above, from left: Lark & Wolff by Steven Alan Vertical Stripe Dress $39.99, available at Urban Outfitters; Victoria’s Secret Oversized Tank Top, $44, available at Victoria’s Secret; 3.1 Phillip Lim Striped Roll Sleeve Dress, $279, available at Bird.

The Top Resort 2012 Trends

With so many newbies (Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra) joining established Cruise veterans (Michael Kors, Chanel), the number of designers presenting Resort collections this year topped out at nearly 200. That’s a pretty hefty number — one that pushes Resort from a mere rest-stop between two big seasons to a definitive moment all on its own. It also means more outfits than ever for whatever Holiday-fêting, jet-setting, beach-lounging, city-cruising adventure one has in mind. Here’s a look at some of the most dominant themes to emerge during the biggest Resort season yet: Head-to-Toe Prints , Scuba, Little Red Dress, Lace Lady, Colorblock, Oversized Vest, Mirror Florals, Pale Yellow, Hot Pink Purse, and Visors.

Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer beauty usually means three things—dry shampoo, sunscreen, and waterproof mascara—all of which you probably have by now. (If not, try our essentials by Rene Furterer, Neutrogena, and Clinique. But rather than addressing the obvious categories, we wanted to go a step beyond and talk about some of the top new products on the market. From melt-proof makeup to must-have hair care products, I’ve rounded up a handful of amazing items that are sure to keep you looking pretty and polished all season long! So get ready, dear readers, because you’re about to fall in love with some new favorites…

Benefit ChaChaTint ($29)
When the humidity index is as high as the temperature is outside, the thought of wearing a heavy lipstick is not so appealing. That’s why I love a lip tint at this time of year: you get long-lasting color without having to wear a weighty product! And on that note, the one you should buy is the newest stain from Benefit Cosmetics, ChaChaTint. It’s a sweet-but-statement-making peachy-mango color, which is the perfect compliment to a (faux) tan! It looks good on lots of different skin types and actually stays wherever you apply it—cheeks or lips—making it a summer essential!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils ($20)
Regular readers know that we swear by Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils ($18), which stay on amazingly well, no matter how much you sweat and/or cry (hopefully just the former). Accordingly, I’m just as keen on the newest iteration of this must-have product: the Glide-On Shadow Pencil. Creamy, long-wearing, and available in 12 great colors—including Midnight Cowboy, a sparkly champagne shadow that’s beyond amazing—these pencils are a girl’s best friend for fuss-free, flawless eye makeup!

La Prairie Anti-Aging Hydra Tint Crème SPF 20 ($100)
When it comes to trendy nail polishes or of-the-moment glosses, I love a thrifty thrill, but when buying products for our faces—especially things like concealer and foundation—I’m happy to make an investment. Currently I’m obsessed with La Prairie’s new Anti-Aging Hydra Tint Cream SPF 20, which is perfectly lightweight, yet somehow manages to conceal all our skin flaws. In addition to giving you an airbrushed complexion, the formula has a nice amount of SPF coverage and is loaded with antioxidants, so you can combat the sun’s harsh UV rays and age spots while simultaneously looking gorgeous!

TIGI Bed Head Colour Combat Shampoo and Conditioner ($16.95-$17.95)
As any native Southern California girl knows—or beach lover in general—the sun can really ravage your natural-looking-but-salon-bought hair color. While wearing a hat for your outdoor activities is always an option, realistically, I know that won’t always happen. Happily, there’s another option to keep your locks from fading: TIGI Bed Head’s new Colour Combat products. They help keep your hair the hue that you want it to be, plus, they smell delish! Available in two formulas—Colour Goddess for redheads and brunettes and Dumb Blonde for, well, you know—this line is both perfectly edited (only three products) and totally on point. Buy it now and stay un-brassy forever!

Dior Addict Lipstick ($28) in Fire
While orange lipstick is all the rage, most ladies I know do not really adore the way that color looks on them. Happily, you can get a touch of the trend in a much more wearable way with this perfect lipstick. It’s a wonderful red-orange that’s sheer enough for the demure, but bold and pigmented enough for the lipstick lovers out there. In fact, the only thing I don’t love about this killer lipstick is the fact that it is a limited-edition shade for summer! It’s seriously that good…

Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer ($16) in Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Lara’s Theme
If there’s one thing we can count on each season it’s that Deborah Lippman is going to create some of the key colors I want to wear on my fingers and toes. She’s spot-on for summer with these two majorly gorgeous polishes, the pinky-coral Girls Just Want To Have Fun and the va-va-va-voom orange of Lara’s Theme, which was created with the one and only Ms. Lara Stone. You can buy one or the other, but I suggest picking up both, especially since they look so lovely together!

Kerastase Chroma Sensitive Ultra-Gentle Cleansing Balm ($42)
Another revolutionary hair care series on the market for summer is Kerastase’s Chroma Sensitive line, which includes this amazing cleansing balm. It’s very creamy and low-foam, so you can remove grime and impurities without stripping your hair. It’s particularly helpful right after you color your hair—the Kerastase team recommends using it for the first three post-salon shampoos, then alternate with their Reflection Bain and Masque—but I also like it after a day in the sun.

Goody Simple Styles Spin Pins ($6.50)
Bobby pins have always been our go-to when creating summer up-dos and buns, but frankly I haven’t used them once since trying Goody’s incredible Spin Pins. No kidding: these things will change your life! Unlike regular pins, these spiral ones twist into your hair, anchoring it securely with absolutely no effort! Two pins will work for almost all hair types (you might need more if you have crazy-thick hair), which means you can get a ballerina bun or a chic chignon in seconds, literally. Buy them now and you’ll be thanking us all summer long!
