Go Native! Tribal-Inspired Pieces

It’s a wild, wild world. Take a nod from the Spring 2011 runways of Missoni (left) and Suno and mix up your Summer wardrobe with a smattering of tribal-inspired prints and vividly exotic patterns. Go rustic with woven Aztec-style accessories or glean inspiration from Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2011 collection and add drama by pairing indigenous prints with deep, bold black. African fabrics, native plaids, playful ikat; don’t be afraid to pile them on.

Miu Miu Women’s Tales: “MUTA” by Lucrecia Martel

Miu Miu Womens Tales: MUTA by Lucrecia Martel

Miu Miu presents their second Women’s Tales, a series of short films exploring the feminine love affair, MUTA directed by Argentinean Lucrecia Martel. MUTA meaning both “mute” and “transformation”, is a beautiful and cryptic portrayal of an all-female world of symbolism, hidden meaning and intrigue. The set was taken place onboard a ship in a tropical sea featuring Miu Miu’s Fall 2011 collection and Noir sunglasses collection.

Martel’s singular film is a mesmerizing personal reflection on the transformative power of femininity at the heart of the Miu Miu obsession. MUTA follows Zoe Cassavetes’ opulent and dreamy tale The Powder Room and will be followed by two more short films by distinctive female filmmakers, to be announced soon.

This is just a teaser, the short film premieres tonight in Los Angeles. Beautiful right? Below are stills of the film.

Tinker Hatfield’s Greatest Sneaker Designs

The legend of Tinker Hatfield may not have begun with sneakers, but it certainly will end that that way. The former Oregon athlete (who ran track for Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman) and architecture graduate signed on with Nike and began designing sneakers in 1985 after realizing that his architectural skills could be applied to footwear. It began with the Air Max 1 and Air Trainer 1, two sneakers that revolutionized their respective sports, but it was his collaborative process with Michael Jordan with the Air Jordan III that opened a whole new window of design aesthetics in athletic footwear. Thirty years later, Tinker Hatfield is a veritable legend in the genre, leaving behind countless classic molds while preparing some newer concepts for the future. Check out some of Tinker’s greatest sneaker designs below and head to Complex for the entire feature.

Neon: Brilliant Trend Or Human Tennis Ball?

By now it should be no surprise to you that I have an unusual, some may say unhealthy, obsession with neon. Blame it on Jil Sander, Christopher Kane, Lisa Frank…whatever, the fact of the matter is, I LOVE IT!

The whole thought-process got me thinking, what better way to celebrate some people’s strange tendencies than by dissecting the coveted trend in terms of looking like a human tennis ball: Is it a repeller or a propeller? Let’s test the dress three ways. Trust me what you’ll see below shouldn’t be done all at once. lol… One piece at a time ladies.. one piece at a time. 🙂

COACH CHELSEA COLLECTION

Loving the new Fall 2011 Chelsea collection from COACH. The Chelsea collection features totes, satchels and shoulder bags in different leathers and colorways. Love that Coach stayed away from logos and kept the bags pretty clean with only buckles, chains and leather strap details. Which one is your fav? Check out mine below 😉

Good News for Mini Fashionistas: Gwen Stefani Does a Kid’s Line for Target and Madonna’s Material Girl Expands (Now Includes Beauty)

Whether you’re a hip parents with a newborn or a teen on the verge of leaving the juniors’ department, pop star mommies Madonna and Gwen Stefani have you covered.

Gwen Stefani‘s Harajuku Lover’s line is shrinking down for the diaper and preschool set; Stefani is taking her pop-arty ode to Japanese street dressing and making it kid friendly for Target. Called Harajuku Mini for Target, the line will be introduced in November and again in January 2012. While she’s designed children’s clothing and shoes for her contemporary LAMB line, this is a first for the younger Harajuku line.

“Target has given me the creative freedom to design kid’s clothing that is different than most anything you usually see out there with great quality, attention to detail and most of all, available at amazing prices,” Stefani told WWD. The prices will range from $3.99 to $29.99, which is very refreshing, considering all the high-end children’s lines that are launching lately. Stefani’s kids Kingston and Zuma are always at the apex of style, so we expect great things from this line.

Moving up a few grade levels, Madonna and daughter Lola’s Material Girl line at Macy’s is doing so well that they’re expanding into new territory. Sleepwear, intimates, and beauty offerings are all on the horizon for the juniors’ line.

When it launches, the beauty line will include nail polish, lip gloss, and body sprays and lotions (and with names like Wicked Watermelon, Flirty Fruit, and Sinful Sugar, you get an idea of the scents.) “I chose scents that I loved,” Lourdes told WWD. The beauty line will retail from $7 to $12, comparable to drug store prices.

Intimates are new to the collection, but don’t expect Gaultier cone bras. Sweet rose and polka dot prints, boyfriend briefs, and lace will define the offerings.

Finally, expect to see more party dresses, outerwear, and trendy denim. Kelly Osbourne continues on as the face of the brand in upcoming fall ads.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are Staying Together…At Kohl’s

When word broke Friday evening that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were ending their seven year marriage, your first thought probably wasn’t ‘But what about their line for Kohl’s!?’

If that thought did occur to you, as it of course did to WWD, never fear, Kohl’s is pressing along with the couple’s line despite their recent split.

In November Kohl’s announced that the celebrity couple would design men’s and women’s lines for the store as well as a line for home, to launch this coming September. According to WWD, Kohl’s heralded Lopez and Anthony as “the first celebrity couple to simultaneously design collections for one retailer.”

Kohl’s says they still plan to release collections by Lopez and Anthony, only with a slightly different billing. “The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brands have always been positioned as two separate, distinctive collections that offer high-quality contemporary style for men and women, and we look forward to a successful September launch,” a Kohl’s spokeswoman told WWD. To further emphasis that everything will be A-OK come September, Rick Darling, the president of LF USA, which is sublicensing the brands to Kohl’s exclusively, told the trade, “[Their split] doesn’t impact the agreements in any way…We have two separate agreements with Jennifer and Marc and always intended to have separate lines.”
