Alexander Wang x H&M | Women’s & Men’s Sneak Peek

Alexander Wang x H&M | Womens Sneak Peek

Here’s the highly anticipated first looks of Alexander Wang x H&M collection both for men and women!  Rihanna was also spotted strolling around NYC in a cropped top and legging set looking fierce!! Of course RiRi would be the first that gets to rock it! As I predicted earlier, the collection is clear now that most of the pieces are sporty and everything is in black, white and grey. Definitely my kind of collection and true to Wang’s aesthetic! Thanks to the good peeps on TFS, we now have new scans from Vogue.nl featuring a few unseen pieces from the collaboration. Super excited! Are you?

The Alexander Wang x H&M collection will feature apparel and accessories for women and men. Typical for his irreverent approach, Wang will propose a new take on the lifestyle product offering that goes beyond fashion. The full collection will be available in 250 H&M stores worldwide, and online starting November 6, 2014.

Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2014 Campaign

Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2014 Campaign

I’ve always been a fan of Alexander Wang and this Fall/ Winter 2014 Campaign definitely doesn’t disappoint. The Campaign was shot in a what looks like a women’s penitentiary. SICK!

It was shot by Steven Klein and art directed by Pascal Dangin featuring models Anna Ewers, Vanessa Moody, Kat Hessen, Lexi Boling and Katlin Aas. One of the most fashionable penitentiaries we have seen by far. Sure beats Orange Is The New Black lol!

They are very open to pushing boundaries and to setting a platform for creativity. This will be a great way for a wider audience to experience elements of the Alexander Wang brand and lifestyle.”

“Alexander Wang is one of the most important voices in fashion today. He understands exactly what people want to wear and does it with an energy and passion that’s infectious. It feels incredible to be collaborating with him this year,” says Margareta van den Bosch, H&M’s Creative Advisor.

Alexander Wang For Balenciaga

20121130-110704.jpg

After weeks of speculation, market sources have finally confirmed that Alexander Wang will replace Nicolas Ghesquière as creative director of Balenciaga. Ghesquière, who led the brand’s global expansion over the past 15 years, officially leaves the company today.

Wang, 28, launched his eponymous label in 2007, shortly after dropping out of the Parsons School of Design. He quickly became a New York favorite for his slouchy, nonchalant collections that go heavy on the jeans, parkas, sportswear, and t-shirts. Critics frequently associate his edgy elegance with the downtown crowd and “off-duty model look,” which Wang peppers with a bit of androgyny. His garments play on the grunge aesthetic of the 90s, as seen in the leather t-shirt dresses and his sheer jerseys with tribal motifs, and his experiments on the catwalk often result in almost futuristic couture. Wang’s Spring 2013 collection includes dresses that consist of cut-out geometric pieces threaded together to censor key body parts.

Today’s confirmation, which was reported by Women’s Wear Daily, isn’t a surprise. In recent days Cathy Horyn of the New York Times and editors at Purple Magazine claimed to have heard from reliable sources that Wang had emerged as the leading candidate. Horyn’s account seemed particularly plausible; in April she broke the news that Raf Simons would replace John Galliano at Dior.

Ghesquière has remained coy about his reasons for leaving. But speculation is rife that he disagreed with PPR bosses who wanted to emphasize the commercial aspects of the business, presumably at the expense of his creative freedom. Wang brings the commercial appeal that PPR covets. His line is already stocked in top-flight department stores from Bergdorf Goodman in New York to Selfridges in London, and has a growing global footprint. He amassed a turnover of $25 million by the time he was 25. An entrepreneurial spirit may be in his DNA. His parents, Taiwanese immigrants, worked in the service sector before setting up a successful business that manufactures plastics.

His background may also pave the road to riches in the ever-expanding Chinese market. Wang speaks Mandarin, his father lives in Hong Kong, and his mother resides in Shanghai. Frequent visits to see his family have helped him understand the aesthetic and desires of the Chinese consumer. “In a way, I know there’s an audience that connects with me,” he said recently. “How I identify that or what I pinpoint that to, whether it’s because of my background or because I connect with people of my generation in New York or London — that, I don’t know how to explain or quantify.”

Commercial matters aside, Wang’s key task will be maintaining Balenciaga’s momentum. Ghesquière breathed new life into the label almost immediately after taking over in 1997. He transformed it from something of a dusty relic into one of the most glittering gems of the fashion map. Despite being experimental and pushing boundaries, Ghesquière honored Cristóbal Balenciaga’s vision by crafting silhouettes with broad shoulders and a small waist. Balenciaga is now 11 times as big as it was in 2001, when the Gucci Group (now PPR) acquired it.

Wang’s appointment won’t just affect Balenciaga. In recent months the winds of change have swept through some of Paris’s most iconic fashion houses. Belgian designer Raf Simons has moved from Jil Sander to Christian Dior, and cutting edge designer Hedi Slimane, formerly of Dior Homme, has moved to Yves Saint Laurent. As this trio of designers strive to make a mark on their respective houses they won’t just be compared to their predecessors, but also to each other. Let the games begin. Can’t wait to see what he does with the label!

Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2012

Alexander Wang’s playful sportiness and menswear-inspired tailoring are back for Pre-Fall 2012. “We started with the idea of tromp l’oeil, something quite classic but less in a whimsical way and more the idea of deceptive textures and patterns,” Wang explains. Thus, the season’s pencil skirts, structured jackets, and cropped trousers are punctuated with clever tactile details: peek-a-boo pleats, mesh knits “printed” with geometric burnouts, and fine wools coated with a suede-like metallic. Accessories include a clutch in the form of a jumbo eyeglass case and a miniature version of the Rocco bag called the “Rocky”.

LVMH Rumored to Be Eyeing Alexander Wang

In the aftermath of the Alexander Wang for Dior rumorsVogue UK reports that LVMH may have been expressing interest in Wang for another reason, instead: “While no investment has been confirmed, or even properly discussed, it seems Wang’s burgeoning brand has caught the eye of LVMH — and rumors suggest that the designer could follow fellow New Yorker Marc Jacobs into the conglomerate’s luxury stable.” [Vogue UK]

Starbucks® + Alexander Wang Unisex Tee

Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet and Billy Reid have each won a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in the past three years, and the talented designers are no doubt in high demand for collaborative projects. So who has the powerhouse trio decided to partner with? None other than coffee-giant Starbucks.

In one of the most unlikely collaborations we’ve ever heard of, Wang, Theallet and Reid have all designed limited-edition tees in celebration of Starbucks’ 40th birthday. Each tee will be sold in-stores as well as online and, like everything else Starbucks produces, they will feature the instantly-recognizable logo of the brand (albeit slightly hidden).

According to InStyle, Alexander Wang said of his design, “The first thing we thought of was what everyone tries to avoid—spilled coffee on a T-shirt.” Indeed, after seeing the t-shirt (above), it certainly looks like something we’d want to avoid.

If you’re into stains though, you can purchase the cotton tee at http://www.starbucksstore.com for $85. Or, for free, you could just spill your morning cup of jo on yourself tomorrow. Your call. 😉
