Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibit Likely Headed to London

The “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit at the Met’s Costume Institute, which set attendance records and was extended — by both days and opening hours — until the museum couldn’t extend it further (the galleries it was housed in needed to be turned over for a new exhibit), is likely headed to London.

McQueen released the following statement after a petition to bring the exhibit to London was mounted: “Alexander McQueen appreciates the huge amount of interest the public has shown towards the Savage Beauty exhibition. We have been in discussion with a number of major venues in London for some time now, however nothing has been finalized. Please be assured that an official announcement will be made the moment we confirm our plans for London.”

The goal is reportedly to show the exhibit in London in 2013, for the label’s twentieth anniversary.

Alexander McQueen Exhibit Becomes Met’s Eighth Most-Visited Show

The “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit — which closed at the Met’s Costume Institute yesterday evening — attracted 661,509 visitors in total, making it the eighth biggest show on record in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 141-year history (Also among the top ten: “Treasures of Tutankhamun”, held in 1978; “Mona Lisa,” held in 1963; and “Picasso in The Metropolitan Museum of Art,” held last year.).

Nearly 80,000 people saw the McQueen exhibition during its final week, amd 15,000 walked through on Saturday alone, when the wait ranged from 90 minutes to three hours.

Anna Wintour, an elective trustee of the museum’s board, made an appearance last night, signing copies of the exhibit’s catalog for many guests. Last week, she said she was thrilled with the show’s reception: “We knew it was going to do well, but we didn’t know how well. One of the mailroom guys told me yesterday how much he enjoyed the show. It just shows you how fashion now reaches so many different people.”

It’s rumored that the exhibit may be headed to London in some capacity. I had the honor to be able to experience this beautiful exhibit and I hope many of you guys did as well.

Alexander McQueen “Savage Beauty” Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

This Friday I went to over to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to take in the Alexander McQueen Exhibit and was blown away by what I saw. Not that I expected anything less from such an innovative artist such as McQueen but I really didn’t expect being in there and being able to feel his presence.  The exhibit breaks down all his collections and showcases them in a way that would make him so proud. When you walk into the exhibit you are welcomed by quotes straight from Alexander’s mouth and music so haunted that it engolfs you more into the exhibit. I think I have said enough. If you haven’t gone, get there immediately. Below are some pictures that I managed to sneak in 😉

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty runs from May 4th until August 7th, 2011:
