Coachella Festival’s Top Five Trends!

1) Denim cut-offs aren’t going anywhere. Yes the reign of the shredded, itty-bitty shorts continue.

2) Go buy something crochet. Now! From roomy tops to fitted minis, this was the fabric of the festival.

3) Sandals are so 2010. Bet you thought 100 degree heat meant your toes would definitely be making an appearance. Wrong! Festival-goers opted instead for cool-girl-approved ankle booties (a la Isabal Marant), sturdy knee highs and beat-up moccasins.

4) Accessorize with bold, ethnic prints. Festival-goers jazzed up otherwise simple outfits (maxi dresses, shorts and tees) with ethnic accents from navajo belts to Wayu Taya bags to vintage Mexican jewelry–the tribe didn’t matter but one thing is for sure: The more vibrant, the better.

5) Go long–as in maxi skirts and dresses. This is one of those runway trends that translates perfectly in real life, no supermodel bod–or shaver–required!

OMG, You Guys! Lauren Conrad Just Launched a Beauty Site!

Lauren Conrad is Allure’s May cover girl, and she is guest editing the beauty bible’s Facebook page all week. Yesterday she casually mentioned, “My new beauty site is launching right now!” Huh? What? Beauty site?

Yes, it’s true. The site, called the Beauty Department, is a collaboration with her hair stylist Kristen Ess and her makeup artist Amy Nadine. According to the “About” page:

This is a site for anyone who’s ever had a beauty question or gotten into a fight with a hair brush and lost. We’ll be covering all kinds of hair+makeup how-to’s, nail trends, skin issues, tools, current obsessions & inspirations, as well as countless quick tips.

There’s not a lot of content up yet, but go see LC looking pretty while curling her hair into perfect vintage waves. And the ombre nail feature? She has an eye for cute trends, no doubt about it.

I have a feeling this site is going to be my guilty pleasure. After so many cancellations and disappointments, we think girlfriend may finally have found her perfect niche. (And let’s not forget about Paper Crown.) Rumor has it that she wants to launch her own line of makeup and hair care, too.

Be still my heart.

Top 10 Best Dressed Coachella: Lauryn in Jil Sander, Kanye in Céline and Alexa in 3.1 Phillip Lim

Celebs and it-girls busted out their festival wear for Coachella this weekend to great effect. And it wasn’t just festival-goers like Kate Bosworth in Current/Elliott or Alexa Chung in a beaded 3.1 Phillip Lim who stole the show style-wise. Performers Kanye West and Lauryn Hill rocked in spring 2011 runway looks–Kanye in a women’s blouse from Céline and Lauryn in a striped Jil Sander. Stripes emerged as a trend for the weekend, as well as delicate lace numbers, and the requisite tiny cutoff jean shorts and floaty maxi skirts.

COACH ON NET-A -PORTER!

I was pretty happy to see on WWD that  COACH is reissuing five of the classic handbags, which will be sold exclusively on NET-A-PORTER.COM  from June 15th. “Each of these archetypal styles was originally introduced by Coach in the Seventies, with limited availability over the past few decades,” a Coach spokesman said, adding that the designs were taken directly from archives. Prices range from $298 for a shoulder purse to $498 for a field bag. There’s also a Madison satchel for $358, Stewardess bag, $358 and duffle, $398. Love these classic bags that can be worn everyday, looking forward to the release!

One Snap For Love: Yone x Kyary Pamyu Pamyu x 6%DOKIDOKI x MIGHTY HARAJUKU Project

There was already a line outside of Lov-Lab Harajuku by the time the event started, with Tokyoites out in force to show their support for the victims of the recent disaster. Yone, Kyary, and Sebastian made sure that everyone had a good time and that each person left with a cool photo to remind them of their good deed. There were quite a few people from various Tokyo shops, brands, and other organizations offering support for One Snap For Love – including Spinns, LaForet Harajuku, Ravijour, Asobi Style, MaiSassyGirl, DJ Yumemi Nemu, the 6%DOKIDOKI shop girls, and many others.

TokyoFashion.com photographer Kira attended the event and took photos to share with us that couldn’t attend. If you are in Japan (or plan to visit in the near future), Yone will be holding other One Snap For Love fund raising events in the coming months. Definitely keep an eye on his blog  for announcements.

On a personal level, everyone here at TokyoFashion was really happy to see so many people – young, old, and everywhere in between – coming out to show their support for – and donate to – earthquake relief.

When people think of Harajuku, they most often think of the amazing fashion that we all love. But events like this show something else that we’ve known all along – that Harajuku has a big heart beating below all of those cool clothes.

JOHN GALLIANO BOOTED OUT OF HIS OWN LABEL!!!

John Galliano, who was fired as creative director at Chistian Dior following mounting allegations of racism and Antisemitism and a  leaked video that showed the designer saying “I love Hitler,” has been ousted from his eponymous label, WWD is reporting.

The label, 91% of which is owned byChistian Dior SA , will continue to produce collections designed by the in-house team. According to WWD, pre-spring is already in the works. The paper also mentions that Dior has received several unsolicited offers to buy Galliano, but says that “it is understood a sale of the company is not an immediate priority, and no banks have been mandated to sell it, nor has financial data been made available to interested parties.”

If Galliano is acquired by one of these interested parties that WWD mentions, don’t be surprised if the new owners bring the designer back to his eponymous line. We’ll just have to wait and see :/
